Show - Cottonwood Upsets Taylorsville Area Teams Have Tough Time In Automotive Tournament MURRAY. Only two Green Sheet area teams remained alive in the Automotive League baseball tournament going into the fourth round last night (Wednesday) - and both of those had a loss. Cottonwood and Taylorsville were in must-wi- n situations. Taylorsville, the tourneys top seed, was upset by Cottonwood Monday, but on Tuesday, Cottonwood was embarrassed 18-by Brighton, which joined Hillcrest in the battle of unbeaten teams. Rain played havoc with the opening two days of play, setting the tournament back an entire day as teams became involved in makeup games 0 Monday. Tuesday with the game called after five innings of play. Brighton had two homers, four triples and four doubles. Taylorsville bounced back from its loss to end Murrays season with a 1 victory behind the pitching of Shane Patrick. Brady Wyllie and Dave Trevino stroked doubles for the winners, while Tim Blackham had one for Murray. Kearns saw its season ended by West Jordan despite a home run by Troy Kehoe. West Jordan rallied from a 4 deficit in the sixth with four runs to win taking advantage of five Kearns errors. Kearns outhit the victors 4-- 5-- 8-- 8-- Holladay was eliminated by Highland 1 when Highland scored d three times in the sixth in a contest. Hillcrest outlasted Viewmont 12-4-- well-playe- Cottonwood was limited to just two hits against Brighton's Don Emery, Granger Legion Squad Downs Cyprus Brian Joys 4x5 Grangers American MAGNA. Led by performance, Legion 16-1- 2 squad outlasted Cyprus in a battle here last Wednesday night. Joys heroics included a home run in the fourth inning and two extrabase hits as Coach Lane Hobbs squad pounded the Cyprus team for hits. Cyprus matched its 12 runs with as many hits in the contest. Kearns eliminated Judge 3 as Troy Kehoe fired a three-hitteKearns had 10 hits, but Judge battled gamely on defense to keep the contest close. The winning run scored in the top of the seventh for Kearns. Brighton moved into the favorite role with a 0 win over Woods Cross, while Hillcrest also remained unbeaten with a 10-- 1 win over Highland. Granite was eliminated in a 1 heartbreaker against Bingham. The two clubs committed 12 errors. Dave Fisher had a triple for Granite, which scored five times in the sixth to take the lead, but Bingham answered with three in' the seventh. Murray avoided elimination by playing erdefeating Bountiful rorless baseball. Tim Blackham Cyprus junior football registration will be held the next two Saturdays at the Hunter park bowery. Boys in the age group who wish to participate in the program must bring birth certificates to the bowery between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The registration fee of $40 includes a jersey and pictures. The tournament, played at Southridge which will be park in Kearns, will determine either two or three of the entrants in the state Legion tourney scheduled to begin on Aug. 4. ? Kearns, by virtue of hosting the state tourney, is assured a spot in the field. If Kearns finishes in the top three in the Western Division, then three more Valley League tourney teams would get state berths. If Kearns is not among the top three, that team will not play in the league tournament, but only the top two will make the state field. Going into action last night (Wednesday), Kearns was a half game out of third "and only Taylorsville in the Western Division had clinched a state berth. The fourth through eighth place finishers will make the league playoffs in each division. In the East, Cottonwood and Hillcrest are already headed to state. Games will be played at noon, 2:30, 5:30 and 7:30 on Monday, followed by two games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Following the loss to Granger, Cyprus bounced back to defeat Tooele 2 on Monday evening. Cyprus pitcher David Brock hurled r. Tooele could manage a only one run in each of the final two innings.
