Four classes in plumbing, masonry, photography and electrical installation are being offered during winter quarter as a cooperative effort between Jordan District Technical Center and Utah Technical College. The joint venture is the first time the two schools have combined forces, according to Reed Thatcher, director of vocational education for Jordan School District, and Fred Rose, division chairman for continuing education at Utah Technical College. The classes will be held at the Jordan District facility, 825 E. 9085 South. Although the technical college has the facilities for this training, holding classes at the Jordan facility is often more convenient for some than traveling to the Taylorsville campus, according to Rose. The plumbing, masonry and elec- trical installation courses are geared to the homeowner and concentrate on preventive maintenance and minor repairs. The photography class provides instruction for the hobbyist, including using a 35mm camera, setting up a home darkroom and processing color slides. There are no prerequisites for the classes and all begin Jan. 25. Registration fees are payable on the first night of class and vary depending on the status and expectations of the individual participants. All four classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and two credit hours are available from the technical college for those who pay the recording fee. In the plumbing class, students will learn repairs and maintenance and how to complete plumbing for an extra bathroom. The masonry class will teach students to lay brick and block, construct walls and finish fireplaces. The electrical Installation course will concentrate on how to wire a room in a basement. The photography class will concentrate on the multi-medi- a process and setting up a darkroom in the home.
