Miss Allen received the traditional Ann Pehrson award, presented by Miss Pehrson who, in turn, was honored by the Lions club. The award is given each year to the outstanding Cyprus senior girl, in honor of Miss Pehrson, who has dedicated much of her time and talents to building a spirit of achievement and activity in Cyprus students. She was instrumental in sponsoring a cleanup campaign that culminated in placing of the Cyprus C on the Oquirrh foothills and also in sponsoring the cheerleading and inter-cla- ss competition now known as Songn' Yell. The Hugh Cannon Memorial Award was presented to the Johns youth by Douglas Winder. Hugh Cannon, student body vice president of the school 43 years ago, was killed 3 DAYS ONLY THURS. - FRI. - during World War II, two years after his graduation. Each year, Cyprus, under the auspices of Ned Winder, selects its outstanding senior boy based upon criteria of leadership, scholarship and activity, for this honor, in memory of Mr. Cannon, and to perpetuate love and appreciation for the United States. Miss Allen also received the Lady Lions award and outstanding scholar and athlete awards. Jodi Payne received a PTSA Future Teacher scholarship. Scholarship awards amounting to were presented to out$80,000 standing seniors, one of the largest lists we have ever had, according to assistant principal Dr. Gerald Handy.
