The event will be held Saturday, June 11th from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Murray 17th Ward, 300 E. 6300 South. Friends and relatives are requested to bring no gifts. Irene was born June 13, 1903 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Sanford Barrett and Margarite Leora Hosmer. And any 'help,' we do give is usually a casually tossed-of- f check. Hiram died in 1966 and Irene lived alone until 1979 when she met and married Kenneth M. Henrie. She and Ken enjoy working in their yard, doing hobbies together and dancing. Irene worked in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for 11 years as a receptionist, and now they enjoy the Heritage Center in Murray where they have many friends. She has 16 grandchildren and 9 Irene Riggs her family moved to Colorado in 1905 and lived there until 1922 when she moved to Culver City, California. In 1923 she met and married Hiram J, Riggs and they had four children, Don, Norman, Lois, and Sandra. During that time, her family joined the LDS Church and one year later, she and Hiram were married in the Mesa Arizona LDS Tem :j : : food fun family : : wGafflCs This was the strength of the pioneers crossing the plains. And if they couldn't do any of these, they made sandwiches and qailons of punch, lemonade, ice water and coffee for those on the front lines.' Those who worked just as hard, hours after the TV cameras had come and gone. : j: Oldsters were there. Men who perhaps had done similar work in war . . . camp ... or on some difficult job. Men who knew the pride of seeing a job that needed doing and doing it. i Day after day young men and women were there. Those who had never before known the pull, the lure, the challenge, the work, the sweat and the satisfaction of being part of something bigger than themselves were there. i ... i : They took pride in working for nothing. Perhaps for the first time in their lives they had pride over a job that was hard, unsung, unpaid, but desperately needed. It's an experience some of us never encounter, even once in our if it does happen, it brings out the best we can offer. It's a difficult experience to get in today's world. There are no 'inside' jobs for girls to stand side by side with women of older generations get- ting a hard job done. lives But man-size- j : f J j The children of Mono and Margaret Peterson of Magna, are inviting friends and relatives to join with them to honor their parents at an open house in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event will take place on Saturday, the 11th day of June, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Magna Senior Citizen Center, 8952 West 2700 South. They were married June 12, 1933 at Farmington, Utah. Mono was born and raised in Magna (Pleasant Green) the eldest of three sons born to Peter and Millie Peterson. He worked for Utah Copper, American Smelting and Refining, and the Tooele Ordinance Depot, as well as Kennecott Copper. He retired in 1975. A double-rinwedding ceremony was performed at the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 19th. A wedding breakfast was held at Andys and later a reception was given at Jordan North 11th ward. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle G. Keiser and is a graduate of Granger high. She also graduated from Utah Technical College with a degree in cosmetology. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Danial B. Seely of Meeker, Colorado and is a graduate of Meeker g And though would not wish a hard life for anyone, just the same, those difficult times made people aware of their own ability and worth.
