Selected entries appear in ads of area merchants wishing seasons greetings to their customers. Winners from the west side of the valley include: MURRAY. Top entries in the Green Sheets annual Christmas art competition were announced here this week. Of the more than 40 pieces of art appearing in the Dec. 23 edition of the Green Sheet, three students from each side of the valley are being awarded art kits for their efforts. In addition, classmates of students whose work appeared in the special edition are receiving candy treats. A televised private ground school flying course will be offered by KUED starting Jan. 15 at 7 a.m. An Invitation to The course, Fly, was developed in part by the Federal Aviation Administration. Also assisting with the project were the National Weather Service, Oakland Flight Service State and the departments of aeronautics at the College of San Mateo, and Foothill and Ohlone colleges. Persons completing the serffes are eligible to take the FAAs private pilot written examination. The KUED course is free of charge, thus making more people eligible to take the test, station spokesman Susan Sudbury said. Normally, ground course classes cost $200-40she added. A textbook and study guides costing $8.85 may be purchased from the Utah Pilots Assn. The course uses aerial photography, graphics, diagrams and interviews with aeronautical experts. The goal of the course is to provide initial pilot training, to provide new or upgraded training and to serve as a source of information to the nonflying public, she said. Classes will deal with an airplanes functional operation, flying environment, the weather, navigation, medical aspects and emergencies, Sudbury noted. Donald W. Brannock and Jeanne McElhatton are the instructors. Brannock, a teacher at Chabot Community College in Hayward, Calif., is a certified flight and ground instructor. He holds a commercial pilot certificate with single land ratings. He and multi-engin- e graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in communications. Clyde, 3591 W. 3310 South. ARTIST . . , Cy Siriamphone, a Reduction Of Winter Risks Discussion Due GRANGER. Tips on reducing winter risks for outdoor enthusiasts will be offered at two county libraries during January. Alpine and Nordic skiers, snowmobilers, snowshoers and tubers are being invited to join members of the Brighton ski patrol to learn how to reduce winter risks and increase enjoyment of outdoor activities.
