Show 3 e Thursday, May 20, 1982 e WEST VALLEY VIEW From State Track Competition - Five Area Athletes Bring Home Gold OGDEN. Five Green Sheet area athletes carried home gold medals in seven events Thursday and Friday at state track meets here. The five standouts - Granites totaling 41 points. Taylorsville was one point behind, placing sixth, while Granger was 11th, Cyprus 17th and Cottonwood 18th. Hillcrest swept both the boys and girls 4A titles. In the girls meet, the Huskies fought off a stiff challenge from Weber, winning the meet with 92 points, 10 better than the Warriors. The boys meet provided an even closer conclusion. The Huskies for barely edged Clearfield the team championship. Region Three champion Olympus finished in a fourth-plac- e tie with East, e tie with Roy, while Taylorsville was 13th and Granger 15th. Cyprus, Olympus, Cottonwood and Kearns finished 19th through 22nd. The meet culminated a sterling prep career for Murrays Andreasen, who shattered the state record for the 3200 meter run set two years ago by Spartan Criss James. Andreasen broke the tape in 9:19.62, nearly a full 10 seconds faster than the previous best mark set by James in 1980. Ten seconds is an astounding amount of time to break a record by, particularly considering that Andreasen ran a 9:46.23 to win the Region Six meet a week earlier. The Spartan standout also finished second at 800 meters, losing by just less than a second to Russell Muir of Jordan. For Judges Gaztambide, the state meet was somewhat of a disappointment. For most thinclads, it would have been the dream meet of a lifetime. The Bulldog star fell short of expectations in a couple of events, but still came away with an astonishing two firsts, one second and one fourth. She won the high jump handily, an event she has dominated for four years. But her best jump of 8 was three inches below her best of She also brought home gold in the high hurdles, which she completed in 15.14. In addition, the Stanford-boun- d Bulldog placed second in the shot put and fourth in the long jump. Another double winner who almost picked up a third victory was Granites Hola. The Farmer senior was a dominant force in the speed events, he 5-- 100-met- the dash in 11.2 edging Brian Wright of Clearfield and Spencer DeGraw of won 100-met- seconds, Davis. Hola just missed a shot at a hat trick when he was nipped in the hurdles by Kyle Jensen of Hillcrest. The Husky crossed the finish line in 39.14, Hola in 39.16. 110-met- 300-met- Camille Riccardi became Taylorsvilles first track champ when she heaved the shot put Her toss was a full inch further than her nearest challenger. She is a junior and will be back to defend her title next year. Tammy Olsen of Granger will have two more shots to repeat and improve her performance in the high jump. The Lancer sophomore had fewer misses at than Clearfields Tracie Fishburn.
