Right now Mary is wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, a member of the LDS church stake Relief Society Board and . . assistant and manager of Granger Zions First National Bank. No, Mary laughs, I wasnt born with the ambition to become some one important or to hold an important job. What I have had, however, is the desire to always give my very best effort. Any job Ive taken, has always been given that best effort. Second best efforts have never been enough for me. Although most of her family of children is grown (she has had eight, but the oldest son died at age 15), twin daughters Laura and Lisa are sophomores at Granger high. There are five grandchildren. I stayed at home with my family until the twins were about four . vice-preside- fami- ly, another with a family down the street, and Id go with Ray. The kids loved it. It was a vacation for them and then, when we got back together, we each had something exciting to tell and share with the others. Their most recent jaunt took them to Hawaii which vacation Mary had won in a contest at the bank. When Ray was with the U.S. Dept, of Commerce, they visited the Far East. The LDS MIA general board sent him to Australia, Tonga and Samoa, and, as director of development with the Utah Symphony, Ray and Mary went on the orchestras tour to Europe last summer. Mary has served in many leadership positions at church including being a Relief Society president, a counselor in the stake Relief Society and both ward and stake MIA president. But, along with travel and church work, Mary is involved in West Valley City community affairs. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the West Valley Chamber of Commerce and in addition, is secretary of the West Valley City Police Honorary Colonels Association. Of course, she tells, One of Wcwaj Nancy started being a r long before she ever realized it, because she had parents who always told her, You can do it. Go ahead and try. He has an intense drive to achieve and awakened that same drive in me. He encourages me constantly and often gives me suggestions which help me map out a solution to any problem at work. With her husband, Mary has visited 18 foreign countries. Ray, who recently became affiliated with A. Gary Sheets Coordinated Financial Services, did much traveling in connection with his work, LDS church duties and vacations. Mary always went along. Collecting artifacts from foreign countries has been one of her hobbies. She also loves to read. She and Ray are avid sports fans, attending most of the BYU basketball and football games. Im interested in keeping fit by walking two miles a day, she continued. Marys parents are still living and her father, Ellsworth Hardy, will celebrate his 81st birthday this week. He and Marys mother, with the same first name as her daughter, live in Price. While Im at work, I devote my relationship is so much dearer when you are together again. I find my married children are following the same pattern and I am glad. Yes, Mary White has proven that the business world isnt just for men and that a woman need not neglect her home, church or husband in making a place for herself entire time to my work, she explained. Ive always been able to work at a rapid speed. But, I really have to give credit to my family - I couldnt have done it without lots of good help from Ray and my children. Mary tells that she has nothing but satisfaction over the way she has raised her family, even leaving the children for short times when she has traveled with her husband. Families need some time to be alone from each other. The once were taught that love and common sense were all it took, and while that advice is good, Nancy says, Its not enough.
