Show 2 Thursday, Oct. 22, WEST VALLEY VIEW 1981 Share Of League Crown - Bulldogs Rally For Pulsating Victory Over Beetdiggers . SANDY. When j Judges Mike Curtin decided to have his best game of the season, it was curtains for Jordans dream of an unbeaten season. After weeks of relying on its talented defensive unit, the Bulldogs were forced to generate some offense Thursday after Jordan jumped off to a lead in the first period. Curtin and Co. responded like champions and in doing so knocked the Beetdiggers into a tie with West for the leagues second seed decision that with a pulsating probably should have been saved for the state finale. Jordan must rebound from'that loss by meeting West tomorrow (Friday) on the Panther turf while Judge plays host to South. A Judge victory is a must to assure the Bulldogs of an undisputed Region Six title because the winner of the Jordan-Wes- t tussle will be record in the assured of a league. Judge cannot afford to take South lightly. The Cubs are always a thorn in the Bulldogs side, having taken Judge into overtime two straight years. South is assured of a state playoff berth, having overcome a slow start with three straight wins, including one over East, the only team to defeat Judge this year. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Judge 14-- 0 28-2- 1 4-- 1 Three Touchdowns Judge had to score three times in the fourth period to subdue a Jordan squad that is definitely for real. Our defense could not top them, Bulldog Coach Frank LEtoile admitted candidly. That veer is awesome. Im not sure I ' want to meet them again. Behind the talents of quarterback Van Heder and running back Jerry Richardson, the Beetdiggers owned the first period. The Diggers marched the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, getting a break on the only Bulldog penalty of the afternoon, a face mask call that erased the lone fumble Jordan would commit in the game, despite an almost constant rain and a high-ris- k offense. Heder went in from the one after Richardson turned a long gainer into an almost sure score for the home team. r Had not the Jordan been banged up on the touchdown and forced to miss the next series, it might have been impossible for Judge to come back. On the ensuing kickoff after the score, the Bulldogs committed their only turnover, but Jordan could not capitalize on the good field position, missing a field goal attempt. Injury Is Key When Heder returned to the lineup, he and Richardson went right back to work and there were still two minutes left in the initial period when Richardson swept right from the nine for a 14-- 0 Jordan lead. The listless Bulldogs finally appeared to wake up two exchanges later and with five minutes left in the half were able to pick up their initial first down. Starting a drive at their own 27, the Bulldogs used a leaping and then diving pass completion to Mark Aberton on a third down play and some tough inside running by Larry Colosimo to drive to the two with time running out. Colosimo plunged through the line for the score. Neither team scored in the third period, though Judge was on the move when time ran out and scored on the second play of the final period. Deep pitches from Curtin to junior Shawn Rodman drive alive on kept the several occasions and Rodman took the ball in. J. C. Murphys PAT barely trickled over the bar, but the score was knotted at 14.
