Announcements of beginning his political career and concluding it came exactly 16 years apart for William E. (Bill) Dunn. Dunn, former mayor of Murray, announced yesterday (Wednesday) he will resign from his ciates before presenting at least six nominations to the partys central committee on Sept. 21. The following day, the central committee will vote on endorsing any or all of the nominated County Commission post, assuming a position with American press Co. on Oct. Ex- 1. It was 16 years ago to the day that Dunn had announced in the Green Sheet that he would make his first bid for election to political office . On Sept. 2, 1965, he made public his intention to oppose Ray Greenwood in a race for mayor of Murray. Dunn was victorious in that initial bid, as well as in a subsequent four one for years later. A year later he ran for the County Commission, giving up the mayoral post with three years left in the term following a successful bid for the county post. He was twice since then and currently serves as chairman of the commission. Dunn will be joining the management team of American Expresss operations here in the county. Part of a local management team, Dunn will be director of operations support services. When the new complex of American Express opens, Dunn will direct many of the local division's internal operations. He expects the job to include duties similar to those he has had as a commissioner. He has been responsible for the countys administrative three-buildin- said yesterday (Wednesday). The commissioners then will have 30 days from Oct. 1, the official date of Dunns resignation, to make an appointment. Failure to do so within that time limit would place the task of filling the vacancy in the hands of the governor, Barker noted. At this point, Barker said he and Stewart Back to KEARNS.
