With 56 students in orchestra this year, Mr. Bird is especially pleased with the strings. The group is working on some fairly difficult cadet band, to high next month. Last year, Eisenhowers jazz ensemble took third place in a state invitational for junior highs. Five years ago, the ensemble placed first. The cadet band is about 80 percent sevstudents. Of course each year we find too many trumpets and too many drums. This year, Ive moved two trumpeters to French horn and have taught some to play the trombone the school owns. I also look for a volunteer each term to play the baritone. He estimated that about 15 students during a school year are trained on a different instrument, with parent approval.
