Dave Martinez got bottled in behind oneof the slower cars after leading the race. which allowed Clyde Ashton to jump into the lead on the outside. On the next lap Ashton was slowed and Martinez took advantage on the inside. and again in the next lap Ashton took the lead over Martinez as they weaved their way through the slower cars. With twolapsleft in the race, there were only the twofastest Super Stock cars in front of them. The remaining two Supers weren't that much slower than the Late Models anyway. so it was dif- “on ALL ficult for Ashton to get around Packer. In the meantime Martinez was right on Ashton’s tail just waiting for him to make a mistake or guess wrong with Packerso he could makehis move. In thefirst turn Ashton sat in behind Packer. so Martinez madehis moveto pass on theoutside, but he pressed too hard lost control momentarily and almost spun-outin the dirt. Ashton saw him going and thought he was gone but somehowMartinezpulledit out and caught back up by the white flag Otheraction saw DaveBiazi's car ride piggy-back on the top of Sam Anderson's car in the Mini Stock Main, as their open wheels interlocked in the turn and catapulted Biazi in the air landingright on top of Anderson.
