Jay Croxford, building board assistant director for contracts and administration, reported that the recommendation is being forwarded to the State Legislature, which must makethefinal decision on the future of the vacant hospital. year ago the Legislature ordered that the building be sold for a minimum price of $2.4 million. But in two rounds of bidding the state received only one bid which proved unacceptable, Croxford said. The only offer was a proposal by Universal Properties Inc. of Ogden to trade a small office building, a duplex and some land for the eastbench hospital property. But Croxford said a building board appraiser estimatedthevalueof the trade property at only abdut $500,000. Utah purchased the hospitalfor $2.2 million in 1975. The Legislature had appropriated $5 million to buy the building and renovate it as an office complex or as a veterans nursing home. Both proposals, however proved too expensive.
