Teammates Craig Giles and Kim Walker weren't far behind as they combined for another 32 points. The Vikings jumped to an early lead in the contest, thanks to the hot handof Kim Walker and a well-coordinated team effort. They empl a 23 zone defense that forced the Dinos to take some low-percentage shots that just wouldn’t go down. The Dinos also committed many costly turnovers early in the first half and seemed to have a hard time coordinating their offense. The redeeming factor for Carbon was its aggressive tebounding that enabled it to remain within striking distance of the Vikings. However, moments later Curt Evans tossed in his own missed foul shot for the winning points. Curt Christensen eventually iced the amefor Spanish Fork with one second left, as he calmly swished two charity shots after a desparation jumper by Cedar’s Troy Lunt had again moved the Redmen within one point, 69-68. Spanish Fork appeared sluggish in the early going. At one time Dons committed four turnoversin four trips down the court, and Cedar City capitalized, jumping to a 21-11 first quarter bulge. Seven of the en's points in the first period came on foul shots, and they hit four consecutive field goals to close out the stanza. Six Spanish Fork players cooperated in cutting Cedar’s halftime lead to seven, as the Dons eliminated costly the half But when Springville went inside to Tad Weight and Averett to build a 47-41 lead at the end of the third stanza it appeared the Devils had the skirmish well in hand The Lions refused to fold, however and they forced Springville into eight miscues in the final period to get back into the game. With 4:26 to play King began a personal onslaught against Springville with a thre<-puint play that cut Springville’s lead to one, 49-48.
