OPEN DAILY 9-10; SUNDAY 10-6 SALE ENDS SUNDAY JANUARY 20 Nervous On The First Date By SUSAN DEITZ Dear Susan: I’m a 24-year-old man who is more single than he'd like to be. Other friends of mine have the same problem: no girlfriends, no dates. I think a lot of our problem comes from the new impersonal trend on advocate, “non- dating.” I would call ‘‘no dating.” Female acquaintances in no way make up for this emptiness of having no real female dates People searching forlove get exploited by others who want only company, a situation where anyone will do. I want a one-to-one evening where a unique relationship stands at least a small chance of developing! So you have to go through a nervous first date to reach that: nothing ventured, nothing gained. On a date, both of the persons’ sincere intentions are shown.I can meet a woman who isn’t too proud to admit she wants someone, too. And she does this by accepting a date, or even asking a man for a date. Non-dating is awkward. Who's with whom? How many meetings with ‘the gang” do I have to sit th before I can be with a particular interesting individual? Maybe these non-dating a are tired of men, and really don’t wantone. "ve heard some say so. I think non-dating ‘is a waste of time and a potential heartache. When it comes down to it, a non-date doesn’treally care of youlive ordie, let alone if you’re loved. — Single and Dissatisfied, Beaumont, Texas. Dear Single and Dissatisfied: Your version of non-dating differs from mine, in that you see a non-date as a person you meetin a group setting, with no real motivation toward a more relationship. When I encourage non-dating amongsingle people, I mean your energies and time away from formal socializing and putting it on the pursuit of your real interests. Bydoing this, you enlarge your life with interesting activities, plus giving yourself a cence to = ee with Sues tastes, toy jving yourself the advantage meeting them £ a odin where you er comfortable, yourself.
