The Provoartist will show a selec tion of his work during April Mr. Young began painting as a hobby, but after beginning a correspondence course in commercial art, he realized his ability and desire to work with fine art. He has studied at Brigham Young Univer- sity and enjoys working with most media including oils, acrylics, water color and tempera. He uses a variety of working surfaces He is currently a member of the Utah Watercolor Society and has exhibited with them in Salt Lake City. Hehasalso participated in the Fine Arts Show in the UtahState Fairandhasillustrated for the Ensign magazine. He hasgiven several one-man shows in the Provo Utilities Gallery and will be giving another exhibit there later this year Mr. Youngrelates that painting helps him bring his love of the world to others. Orson Scott Card has had extensive background in theatre. He graduated from ghar. Young University with a degree in playwriting, and he has a dozenplays to his credit. Someof his better known works include ‘‘Stone Tables," ‘Of Gideon,” “Father, Mother, Mother and Mom,"’ ‘‘Fresh Courage Take,” and his newest work, ‘‘Elders Sisters.” Scott's theatrical experience is not limited to writing. He has had extensive experience in directing and acting. He wasalso the first to use the castle behind the state mental hospital in Provo as a theater, when he managed the Utah Valley Repertory Theatre Company Presently Scott is enjoying success as a freelance writer. He has sold more than a dozen stories to major science fiction publishers. He has one novel, ‘Capitol: The Worthing Chronicle,” to his credit, with three more sold and awaiting publication. Scott was also awarded the John W Campbell Award for best new writer of 1977 at the World Science Fiction Convention held last August in Phoenix, Ariz Russell Gordon Card has had over eight years experiencein the theatre.
