Fox Norman Shumway AMERICAN FORK — Theoffices of mayor and twocity councilmen will be on the Novernber ballot in American Fork Incumbents, Mayor Malcolm H. Beck and Coun cilman Donald Fox, will seek re-election on the Republican Partyticket with Robert Warnick campaigning for the council seat being vacated by Democrat Rod Turner. Councilman David Greenwood will oppose Mayor Beck for the position as mayor. Hewill run on the Democraticparty ticket with Norman Shumwayand Glen Durrant, who are competingfor council seats All six of the candidates were chosen by acclamation at their parties nominating conventions, Republican Candidate for Mayor Incumbent Donald L. Fox Councilman Donald L. Fox currently heads the Public Safety Department on the city council andis the city representative on the Pageant of the Arts was previously councilman for five years. He is a turn - supervisor in the Production Planning department at Geneva Works, U.S. Steel. He has served aspresident of both the American Fork Lions Club and the American Fork Jaycees. He was chairman ofthe American Fork City Recreation Commitiee for three terms, chairman of the Tri-City Recreation Committee 1970 through 1973 and on the board of directors of the American Fork City Hospital. He and his wife, the former Sharon Stoddard, are the parents of three children. Mr. Beck is an ex-officio member of the Utah Pageant of the Arts committee. He served as vice chairman of the Utah County Council of Government in 1973, chairman of the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) in 1974. As chairman of the Physical Planning Department of MAG he participated in 208 water quality studies for the Mountainland area, Utah Valley Area Transportation study, and the solid waste disposalstudies. He has served on the National Advisory Board on Metropolitan Government for the past two years, and as chairman of the Timpanogos Special Service District The district has just awarded bids on construction of collectorlines and a regional sewageplant to comply with state and federal standards for water quality to meet the area need for 20 to 40 years, he said. The incumbent mayorhas been vice chairman of the Utah County Solid Waste Special Service District, and as a memberof the Utah County Fire Study Committee. He served as treasurer of the American Fork Republican Precinct in 1967 through 1971 and as Republican chairmanof District Five in 1976-1977 Mayor Beck has been a panel memberand speaker at Western States 208 Water Quality meeting in San Francisco, and in 1976 he was oneof twoelected officials in the nation invited to Washington, D.C., to Teport on 208 Water Quality Study progress. Democratic Candidate for Mayor David Greenwood David Greenwood is experienced in city and county government, and pledges to work toward a balanced budget and soundfiscal policies with no increase in the mill levy Mr. Greenwood served as mayorof American Fork in 1947-49, and on the city council in 1946-47. During his term of office the American Fork City Hospital wasbuilt at its presentsite, the first street department was developed, and the police and fire departments were expanded. A million gallon water storage tank wasbuilt, and the sewerplant was installed under his direction. He sees the need for increased waterstoragein the city and promises to work toward thatgoal. Mr. Greenwood served two years as Utah County Road Supervisor, and four years as a Utah County Commissioner. He was B and C Road Administrator for eight years for the Utah State Highway Department. As road administrator, he was responsible for all the city and county roads in the state and worked with mayors and city councilmenof 29 counties. He retired from his position in 1976. Mr. Greenwood, owner - manager of Greenwood Motor with his sons, Robert and David for many years, has retired from active management of the business and has been devoting muchof his energy to community service.
