The white Holland turkey, while not so common as the bronze variety, Is nevertheless widely raised and exceedingly popular. People who keep them long enough to get familiar with their qualities and characteristics generally prefer them to any other breed. The origin of the white Holland Is not known, according to writers on poultry, but it is believed to have been developed by breeding white birds selected from other breeds, which appear occasionally ns among chickens and are classed as sports. It seems quite certain that they did not come from Holland or the Netherlands. It has come to the front as a distinct breed since about 1890. The standard weights are, 20 lbs. for a cock ; 16 lbs. for a cockerel ; 16 for a hen and 10 for a pullet. At the same time any of these classes may be fattened to from three to six pounds above the weight quoted. This is because the man with small capital does not have to iuvest in a large lot to accommodate the building, and less capital is invested in (he home. In reality the average bungalow is nothing more nor less than the first floor of an apnrtmeut building the room arrangement usually is about the same as in an apartment, there rarely is more tliau six rooms and usually five in such a home. Wliat probubly makes the bungalow popular is the artistic effects that may be gained in exterior appearance and the convenience to the housewife of having all the rooms on one floor so that the housework can be done more The interior is arranged so easily. that the living and dining rooms and kitchen are in one unit and the bedrooms in another. For the exterior wails of the bungalow stucco is most popular. It may be applied over metal lath, expanded metal, wood lath or any of the stucco bases that are on the market. It has not been found practical to spray currants and gooseberries for If the Imported enrrant leaf spot worm appears, spray or dost with parts green and lime. If mildew, a grayish, powdery fungus, appears apply potassium sulphide (liver of sulphur) at the rate of one ounce to two or three gallons of water. If plant lice (aphids) appear use nicotine sulphate before they curl the leaves. Plowing under dead leaves or burning them will aid greatly In the control of leaf spot. RASPBERRY PATCH DISEASES Raspberry patches are subject to two or three quite serious diseases. One is blight, which causes the canes to die, and the bark becomes unhealthy. Anthracnose gives the canes a scabby appearance. This perhaps is the worst disease of all. If these are the real causes of the unthriftiness, spraying with bordeaux mixture will be effective. However, if the patch lias become hadiy diseased, do not fool with It. It will be more profitable to start a new plantation on disease-fre- e ground, in another part of the garden. a Menominee, Michigan As Time K Change.
