IN YEARS past the Falcons have had to face powers like Bountiful and Viewmont, a couple of clubs that have been blessed with a lot of great soccer players over the years. Beating these clubs was almost impossible for a school which didnt have the junior program that benefited the others. i j .i:.w the Braves and Vikings are in a different region and the Clearfield area Now has come a long way in the youth programs. The high school is starting to benefit. AT FIRST glance the soccer club resembles that of the wrestling team as several outstanding grapplers have taken to this sport. One of the top players on the squad was a grappler this past year for Clearfield in Abel Narvez. Abel has excellent ball control and seems to run the club from his forward position. Another grappler who plays extremely well on a soccer field is Alan Ragen who never seems to run out of gas. As one opposing coach noted, I wish 1 could get some of my players to hustle after the ball the way that Ragen kid does. What he lacks in talent he more than makes up for in desire and hustle. ranks this past year. Herman is a great competitor and is always working hard on the field. With the addition of several new northern schools joining the ranks of those playing soccer the leagues were realigned this season. Clearfield is in the northern division along with Layton, Bonneville and those northern schools. Viewmont and Bountiful are in another division. THE FALCONS opened up the season with a convincing victory over West High in Salt Lake City, which was a pleasant surprise to their coach. When you consider , that some of our starters have only been playing for a couple of weeks, the win is gratifyi, THE APRIL 20 season is one week longer this year to allow turkey areas to clear of snow. y Coles said warm weather could speed up the snow melt making more of the favorite turkey hunting areas accessible.
