Robbie Richeson who played there a few years ago, noted one coach in the region. - CLEARFIELD The Falcon football team now finds themselves in a small hole as far as their region standings go after their loss last Friday to Sky View. Hicks does about everything for the club. He is their quarterback, a defen- sive back and does all the kicking for them. Last week in the Sky View loss he booted field goal. Gooch a also plays defense and it was his interception of a pass that set up the touchdown, which he scored later. CLEARFIELD is now in region action and theyll be looking for their first region victory this week when they travel up to Roy to battle the Royals. Like the Falcons, their opponents this week will be looking for their first league win as Roy also enters the contest with a record. 0-- 2 ; struggling a little this year but that was to be expected following the graduation of most of their standouts. Coach Jacklin has his troops ready for this one as these two are becoming a rivalry. The Royals were disappointed with their loss to Weber last week and will be ROY HAS been 0-- 2 WEBER AND Layton are of these two with marks, and since they face each other this week the winner of the Clearfield-Ro- y contest will pull themselves up into the pack. If the Falcons have any hopes of making post season play then theyll need to beat the Roy club on Friday. ONCE AGAIN the two stars, more or less, for the Clearfield club last week were seniors Tim Gooch and Brook Hicks. Gooch has established himself as one of the top running backs in the league and havent gone unnoticed by the opposing coaches. He has excellent speed and also power, hes much like right ahead fighting mad this week. Clearfield needs to get a good game from the people up front like Kevin Neville, Glenn Simpson, Timmy Robinett, Shawn Moore and Robert Hammer. IF THEY can give Hicks time to throw, then they have a chance, also make holes for Gooch, Dean Vernon, Mike Crawford or Kelly Chapman. The Falcons want a state berth and this weeks contest could very well be the deciding factor. s - Ibeai S DU la Jlelion By DAVE WIGHAM - Bountiful 7-- 0 Things were starting to look brighter forthe Viewmont football club last week. Senior Mike Dolder had taken over at the quarterback spot, Kyle Morrell was at wide receiver, and had just guided the Vikings to a touchdown on their first possession of the ban against South. VIEWMONT THEN held the Cubs at bay and had the ba around midfield and heading down for another score. On the second play of the 'drive Dolder went back to thrdiw and when his receivers were covered he took off on his own. The ensuing tackle resulted in a broken arm thus ending the season for the likeable senior. Mike well remembers the I incident, remember cut- ting: back up the middle and someone hit my legs from under me. As I fell to the ground. I put my arm out from my body to break the fall and two guys hit it from different angles. NO ONE knows if the Viking would have won the garpe or not with Mike still in the' game but he did have things rolling in the first quarter. Not only did they miss him on offense but also in the defensive secondary. The loss put the Vikings alone in the cellar of region action with a 3 mark while the 'Cubs moved up to a 2 0-- record. Things dont look much brighter this week as the Vikes travel to Highland to battle the Rams, who with the loss to West, stand at 1 In the region standings. 2-- THE Brian Skidmore after a suslead. tained drive to take a VIKINGS fought gamely against the Cubs scoring on a ten yard run py After the Cubs had scored tight end Paul Hansen hauled down a 60 yard pass from Junior Kyle Morrell to put the Vikings in the lead again. The kicking of Mark Earnshaw kept the Braves in a hole most of the night, even punting from his own goal line he got kick. All night he off a was kicking like a pro.
