The races in each of the three he area are turning into classic ' confrontations each week. n Region One where the Layton and earflel,d schools are battling for playoff spots the Lancers lost a heartbreaker last week by one point to unbeaten Bonneville. But the Lancers did serve notice that they are a team to reckon with in the league. The Falcons are finding things rough in the league with an 2 record but they are far from being out of contention yet. Meanwhile up in Logan the Bees were getting a great effort from senior running back Evan Bingham, the man the Darts will have to stop to win. BOX ELDER is a small but game dub who simply keep coming at teams. The best illustration of the Bees is the play of their tackle Matt who although Smoot, ' weighing only 140 pounds uses - would be one of those unbeaten clubs and indeed they are with a mark following v their win over Ogden last 0 to create! his quickness problems. . Not many planned on the other club being Box Elder though, but the Bees counter under the lights in Brigham City as a key to the region title. Keep in mind the Darts still have to face Logan. DAVIS LOOKED very impressive in their win over the tough Tiger crew on Friday. The first time they touched the football they marched down the field and scored with senior quarterback Jeff Emery taking it in the final four yards. Then after halting the Ogden crew the Davis club proceeded to score again with Keith McNally taking it the last five yards. The Dars increased that lead to 0 with Lynn Adams scoring on a double reverse play with Scott Smith adding all three extra points. IN THE second half though the Tigers made a game of it by putting two quick touchdowns up on the board to pull within a touchdown. Then the 21-- Darts put together one of their patented ground games jmd chewed up 63 yards and a place. At Layton - LAYTON Layton Elementary School is one of the few elementary schools in the Davis School District that conducts an inter-mursports program for the students in the fourth, fifth al and sixth grades, EACH afternoon, par- ticipants from the upper grades compete against each other. The boys play flag football. The girls play either volleyball or kickball. Each child is placed on a team'. While winning the inter- mural championship is important, Harold Berg, the schools principal, feels the benefit of the inter-murprogram attends beyond winning to the more important concepts of learning the rules of the games, learning the principles of teamwork and good sportsmanship and just al having fun. West is unbeaten and alone on top of the region clubs with a perfect league mark, the Bountiful club is right behind them along with Highland at 3-- 0 2--1. The Braves were riding high into last weeks encounter with the Wildcats before the Cats stunned them shutting off the usually potent Bountiful offense. Some fans indicated they felt' the Braves were looking past 7--0, the Cats and toward the West encounter, others noted that it was that old homecoming game jinx that seems to plague most Bountiful teams. WHATEVER the reason the Braves cant afford to look back, but must now look ahead to the Panthers. A West win would more or less assure the Panthers of the region title with only one more league game left after Friday, a Bountiful win would throw the race up for grabs again. FFEK BSTIMA TBS 1 S Each year the Davis Coupty duck hunt attracts a grebteq number of hunters to marshes that fringe the east shore of the Great Salt Lake. This year the hunt will begin at noon on Oct 6 and end on Jan. 6. 1980 except for Falconers which may pursue waterfowl till Jan. 20, 1980 with falcons. All hunters using Farmington Bay, Howard Slough, and state maintained access areas in Davis County are advised to obtain a copy of the 1979-8- 0 Waterfowl Proclamation and read it thoroughly. Now the kids know they have to play hard and win against West, noted one fan. ' BOUNTIFUL moved the ball well at times against the Wildcats mainly in the air as their usually potent running attack was more or less shut off. Coach Kim Petersen will , b? working overtime this week to get the likes of Curtis Sampson, Clark Mabey, Breen Artist, Lane Christiansen and .Scott Wright creating those holes for running backs and Mike Rob Cottle Hollingsworth. Kevin Kott is a fine passer and Mike Haslam, Jim Perkins and Mike Woodbury can also catch the ball. The Braves gave up their last week and that made Cory Hilton, Jon Robertson, Tim Murray, Kurt Thompson, Russ Jensen and others mad. Theyll be roaring to go this FOR BOUNTIFUL to win theyll have to stop the running of Joey Price and Reggie Wilson. These two are heralded as two of the best in the area. In fact the Bountiful teams havent been able to score on West in their last three meetings. Bpuntiful faithfuls still believe in this club and that they will rebound from the loss. Some even think of the loss as a blessing in disguise. ADDED HUNTING pres- . sure each year seems to increase hunter abuses to land and property along marsh areas. Sadly enough in the past month two mature cows have been killed in the West Layton area by .22 rifles. Rifles in marsh areas are extremely dangerous to livestock and property due to the ricochet factor and a great amount of livestock present. The waste of these two animals resultedjn thousands of dollars being lost to resident landowners and seriously jeopardizes hunter trustability in the eyes of the landowners.
