Show mrnrm ( i'4 i V VEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, NORTH DAVIS LEADER, JANUARY 8, 1981 CHURCH By NORMA PREECE 376-875- 1 Open House Slated For LDS Chapel An open house to give people the opportunity to see the newest LDS Chapel in Layton will be held Friday, Jan. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The new chapel, which will house the Layton 5th and 21st Wards of the Holmes Creek Stake, is located at the intersection of Gentile Street and Oakhills Drive. DISPLAYS explaining the teachings of the LDS Church and the purpose of the church auxiliary organizations will be set up in classrooms. There will be displays on scouting, Mr. and Mrs. Irving F. temples, food storage and family home evenings. A computer will be set up to help families calculate how much food they need to store for their individual size family. The public is invited. The open house is sponsored by the Holmes Creek Seventy Quorums. AT 7:30 p.m., the Sun, Shade and Rain musical group will perform in concert. This event is a paid admission activity. Dedication of the new chapel will be announced later. They visited other places of interest while in California. Mrs. June Rushforth flew to Albuquerque, N.M. to visit with her son and daughter-in-laScott and Nancy Rushforth. Mr. and Mrs. Max Ward n, entertained at their home on Friday evening. The neighborhood party was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Furse of Hurricane (former Kaysville residents) who were visiting for the holidays. Sixteen guests attended. The guest speaker will be Dr. Dean Belnap who is a member of the Kaysville Utah Stake High Council, np Missionaries children of Clearfield, and Blair Barton were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Barton. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Holt entertained at a family dinner party on Christmas Eve for their daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Lue McCann and children of Kaysville, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Holt and family also of Kaysville. Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. Preece returned Sunday evening from California where they spent the holidays and attended the son-in-la- Rose Parade in Pasadena. They also enjoyed other places of interest in southern California. Mrs. Glen Andersen and her children returned from an tour of the California Rose Parade with Faldmo Tours of Bouptiful. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Holt entertained at their traditional company Christmas party at their home with 40 guests in n attendance. The group en- joyed dinner, games and exchanged gifts. He is the son of Theron and Kay Twogood of Fruit Heights. THERON IS a graduate of Davis High School and the Seminary program there. L HE WILL enter the MTC on Jan. 15. vsb Elder Daniel C. Glad has been called to serve an LDS mission in the Belgium Brussels Mission. HE WILL be honored Jan. 18 at the Layton First Ward Sacrament meeting at 9 a.m. The Chapel is located at 789 East Wasatch Dr. just east of Layton High School. Daniel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lee Glad, 571 East 425 S. Layton. He was an honor graduate of Layton High School and Layton Seminary in 1979. Since graduation he has been going to school at WSC and working at the Kaysville Elementary School. When he enters the Mission Training Center on Jan. 29, he will be the third member of his family to be currently serving a mission. He has a sister in England and a brother in Denmark. Syracuse News Mrs. Ann Wilcox has been in the DNMC receiving treatment for the past two weeks with pneumonia. Bruce Parry had the misfortune of receiving a serious injury to his left eye in a freak accident on Saturday. He was rushed to the Holy Cross Hospital where he under went several hours of surgery. He will bi confined to bed rest for sometime to come. Mrs. Jessie Chadboume has been suffering with pneumonia for the past ten days and hos- pitalized at the DNMC for treatment. in-law, Layton has been seriously ill at the DNMC this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Casper G. Carroll are at home after spending Christmas and the holidays in Arizona. They were the guests of Mr. and Mrs, Jerry Allen of Tucson. They also visited with Richard Lazier at Green Valley, Ariz. Mrs. Carrolls sister, Mrs. Gladys McPhee of Salt Lake City accompanied them. The Sheffield's traditional New Years party was held New Years Day at the Kaysville LDS Tabernacle Cultural Hall. Guests were entertained with musical programs, readings, and dinner. Games were played and reports were given about Iknily members who are serving on LDS missions. This event was begun 75 years ago by H.J. Sheffield Sr, an early merchant of Kaysville. On Friday, Dec. 26, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Zimmerman andi Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reed left Layton to travel to Mesa, Ariz., where Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman have a winter home. Mr. and Mrs. William W. Mrs. Flints son, Stanley is spending several days with his mother and other family members. Stanley is in the process of moving from Texas to California. Mrs. Flints grandson, John Flint, who is originally from Washington' but is now attending BYU, was married Tuesday evening in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John is the son of Vern Flint. Kristie Day, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Day and Kim Harrison, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Davis, were among the 40 young people who recently traveled to Las Vegas, Nev. to perform with the Gold Diggers at the Holiday Basketball Tournament. After performing in Nevada, their family members by returning home to spend Christmas day in Layton. The Whitesides stayed at the home of Mr. Whitesides sister, Mrs. Alice W. Johnson. They arrived on Christmas afternoon to surprise the family members. While they were in Layton, Mr. and Mrs. Whitesides enjoyed visiting with many family members and friends. On Saturday evening friends and relatives of Mrs. Loralee Despain met in the Despain home to celebrate Loralees birthday. Craig L. Nelson, the son of Kay and Carol Nelson, recently returned home from serving an LDS mission in Japan. He reported in Sacrament meeting in the Layton Utah East Stake Center on Dec. 28. Layton resident, Mrs. Inez Langley, was saddened by the death of her brother William Lloyd Davis. Mr. Davis died Dec. 26 at his West Warren home.
