Zachary Vocal Awards competition in Los Angeles for her renditions of "Come scoglio from the opera, Cosi Fan Tutte, and Yissi d'arte from Tosca. Becomes Second Lieutenant THE AWARD amounts to a total of $1500 and includes an audition tour to West Germany and Austria in the fall of 1981. Among the ten finalists presented with orchestra at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif., were several of the national winners of the Metropolitan and San Francis co Opera auditions as well as first place winners of compei-tion- s in Mexico City, the International Verdi Competition for Voices, and the Victor Fuchs Memorial Awards. Miss Cloward, known to Utah audiences for performances as Nedda in I Pagliac-c- i with Utah Opera, and as "Ann in Shenandoah" at the Capitol Theatre, was also a national finalist this year in New York City in the American Opera Auditions. Shannon, are in Layton visiting with Jeds parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beyer. Jed is stationed at the Bangor Submarine Base in Washington. LN THE NAVY for six years, much of his time spent in Japan, he has completed a two year tour of duty aboard the aircraft carrier Midway, and a two year duty assignment on the friggot, Lockwood. He has been stationed in Washington for the past year. Jed is a graduate of Layton High School. His wife. ATWELL Completes Recruit Completes Training Studies At Academy Marine Corps Private Shane L. Shradley, son of Sandy and Linda Shradley, Layton, has completed 1 weeks of recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. DURING RECRUIT training Shane received extensive training in military history and customs, marksmanship, combat tactics, physical fitness, first aid, water survival and leadership. Pvt. Shradley will receive specialized training in the tank and amphibian tractor field. The job will require the study of tactical employment, operation of tracked vehicles and decontamination procedures. He is a former student of Layton High School. 1 Bart L.
