SOMETHING TASTY By DONETA GATHERUM Halloween is cookie time. All goblins, witches, monsters and princesses expect mother or gandmother to create a special treat for school, parties or snacks. Cookies are the most favorite of all child pleasers. THINKING up something taSty is an ability Mrs. Blaine (Marge) Adams of Layton has acquired. According to her daughter, Mrs. Annly Capen-e- r, Mrs. Adams can improvise and quickly create meals and snacks that are appropriate for the occasion. Mrs. Adams is classified by her family as a homemaker who loves flowers, yard, home, her daughter's original cious meal ideas for her family when she got home from work. Husband, Blaine Adams, retired a year or two before his wife. He decided to try his skill at cooking. Today, he has his own famous carrot cake recipe, peanut brittle recipe and peach preserve secret. MRS. ADAMS worried about her kitchen at first but now she willingly assigns some cooking tasks to her husband. Meats and dressings are one speciality of Mrs. Adams. She w as asked to come up w ith a different idea for Hallow een. She though about it for a long time and decided it nyght be fun to paint fruits and vegetables to look like people. MRS. NOYES tried out her idea for the first time at the annual PTA room mothers tea. She characterized Ralph Davis, the school's principal, as a "top banana." Teachers and parents attending the tea each received a fruit ora vegetable designed to resemble them. The new idea was terrific! Mrs. Noyes had found a speciality that would become a family tradition and hobby to be shared with schools, families, church and neighborhood groups. IN YEARS following this first experiment, Mrs. Noyes painted faces on all varieties of fruits and vegetables. She decorated gourds, even drew caricature on ceramic creations. Then Mrs. Noyes disco- vered pumpkins. Now painted pumpkins are her speciality. Mrs. Noyes looks for crazyshaped pumkins. Next, she decides what the pumpkin is going to be; a person, cat, pig. witch, the possibilities are limited only to imagination. FACES ARE painted onto the pumpkin using Tcstors model paints. Tops of tooth- paste tubes, buttons, hats, crepe paper, hair and other odds and ends Mrs. Noyes has saved during the year are added to give the pumpkin creature dimension and personality. fHE RESULTS are fantas- tic! Mrs. Noyes' pumpkin characters hav e been given out as prizes for school Halloween costumes and games. They are a big part of the Halloween season for her grandchildren, neighbors and friends. She starts to make the pumpkin creatures about four w eeks before Halloween, . She needs this much time because last y ear she did 24 pumpkin 1 DAVIS GARAGE SALE School Orchestra garage sale set Nov. 7 in the school' south parking lot Irom 1 1:30 a.m., inducting a mum auction. 8-- . - A garage KAYSVILLE sale will be held Nov. 7 in the south parking lot of Das is High School from a.m. The sale is sponsored by the school's orchestra 8:30-11:3- 0 AN AUCTION will be held at noon in connection with the garage sale.
