By MICK DREW ' k When I was a little boy growing up in Idaho during those long hot summers of the 1960s, my brother, his friends and I used to make a habit of parking our sleeping bags on the back lawn for a night of cool slumber. Its awesome beauty left us speechless. And I often wondered from what far off place that star had come and if it was indeed...just a star. For the average horror movie fan, Poltergeist proves a scream a minute. E.T., on the other hand, is a sensitive story about love the love between a lonely little boy and a likeable space creature whose only crime is being abandoned by his fellow martians during a routine trip to earth. The story revolves around the meeting between E.T. and Elliott and blossoms into one of the most magical films since The Wizard Of Oz and Disney s animated features. Elliot (Henry Thomas) befriends the little creature and hides him in a closet in his bedroom, but little by little the secret creeps out. THERE IS one hilarious scene where Elliott and and his older brother take E.T. out we see the whole event through the little martians eyes as he toddles from street comer to street comer dressed as a ghost. E.T. is filled with subtle humor, suspense and miraculous special effects. There is increasing pressure to expand the time that the legislature is in session. However, Senator Barlow feels that there are advantages to the present system under which the legislature meets only 20 days in even numbered years and 60 days in odd numbered years.
