Show I MARCH 30, 1983 Kaysville SOCIETY Mrs. Ardith Leavitt and daughter Mrs. Nedra Pilling of Cardston, Alberta, Canada are houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Fm Christensen. They came to attend the funeral service of Mrs. JLeavitts brother, Woodrow L. Williams held Tuesday in Bountiful. DON STEVENS Golden Date Don and Bessie Stevens will celebrate 50 years of marriage and at this particular time of life they are still as active as they always have been with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildr- and square dancing five nights a week. THEY WERE married April 8, 1933 in Price and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple Nov. 20, 1933. Married life for them began on a ranch high in the Wasatch Mountains, where they lived their first summer and worked for Bessies father. After brief moves to Provo and Salt Lake, they went to California where they lived for five years, in the Alameda area. The couple returned to Utah with two, small children and after several years made their home in Layton. WORLD WAR II was under way, and both Don and Bessie helped in the war effort by working at Hill Field, Don as an expediter, and Bessie as a supervisor in engine repair. At the conclusion of the war Don continued on at Hill Field, and Bessie went back to the ' University of Utah, received her B.S. degree, and then returned to teaching school, a profession she maintained for 34 years. SINCE 1958 they have lived in Clearfield. Forty continuous years of square dancing have provided them the opportunity to meet many people throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii and in Canada and Mexico. In addition to these many activities they have been in- volved in religious and civic positions. Don was heavily involved in the scouting program serving as scoutmaster, Explorer leader, and field commissioner. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent. BESSIES church service included leadership positions in all the womens auxiliary organizations. In addition, she has directed plays, served as choir leader and teacher. Their family consists of two sons Deon O. Stevens, Salt MR. AND MRS. MARK S. HEDDEN Couple United Brenda K. Shaw and Mark S. Hedden were married March 19 at the Church of the Way Farer in Carmel, Calif, by Dr. Wootenburg. THE BRIDE is the daughter of Mrs. Morris Shaw and the late Morris Shaw of Lena, 111. Mark is the son of H. Dale and Sara Hedden of 22 W. Creek-sid- e Lane, Centerville. A reception was held at the Church of the Wayfarer. THE BRIDE wore her mothers gown of satin, trim- - 13 grandchil-dre- six and med with lace on hem. She wore a fingertip veil trimmed with matching lace. Eileen Shaw, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a long pink gown and carried white carnations tipped with pink. THE BRIDES mother wore a mauve dress. Mrs. Hedden wore a pink wool skirt and jacket. Two nieces of the bride, Stephanie Butler and Allison Shaw, were flower girls. BEST MAN duties were performed by Michael D. Hed- den, brother of the groom. Ushers were Alan Hamilton and Don Ekstrom. The bride has attended Western Illinois University, Lake City; DelMar W. Stevens, Layton, Macomb, n randchildren. Coaches To Meet 6-- MR. GREEN was married to Malinda Burton, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 7, 1917. The couple observed their 63rd wedding anniversary before Malindas passing on March 10, 1981. He served in World War I, and upon returning home from this service, he and his bride purchased the farm land that has been their home since. He has always engaged in farming and cattle raising. He was employed by the Davis County School District for 37 years, and he operated a school bus for the children in Layton. Robert E. Green of 3589 W. 1000 N., Layton, celebrated his 88th birthday anniversary on Sunday, March 20, with a family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay H. Simmons. x family members were in attendance. Twenty-si- BORN MARCH 20, 1895 in Layton, Mr. Green was the son of John Hyrum and Martha Lovina Pierce Green, early Layton settlers. Mr. Green recalls attending school at the Layton Elementary School when it contained only two rooms. His high school classes were held in the small red brick home that was located at Five Points, in the AT THE retirement of his school bus driving, he was honored by the state for his outstanding record of safe driving and was honored with a plaque, as Driver of the Year, plus a cash award. An active member of the Layton 2nd LDS Ward, he is a High Priest, and was a home teacher for many years. He is the son of Pres, and Sister Darwin B. Christenson, now serving as mission president in the Sao Paulo North Brazil Mission of the LDS Church. The Christensons are residents of Farmington. MISS CLARK and Mr. Christenson are both graduates of Davis High School and the LDS Seminary. Mr. Christenson served an LDS mission in Italy Catania. They are both attending BYU. The couple plans to be married on April 22 in the Salt Lake Temple. ladies recreation. HAROLD ELLISON 60th Anniversary Harold E. and Florence Cooley Ellison will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at an open house on Sunday, April 3 at the Main Street Station in Layton. Friends may come and visit with the couple between 5 p.m. at 200 S. Main, Layton. They request 2-- no gifts. HAROLD WAS born in Layton, Nov. 29, 1904, the son of James E. and Jane Watt Ellison. He served a two-yea- r LDS mission to the Eastern States in 1925. He attended the University of Utah upon his return, and was the first married man to be initiated into the Sigma Chi fraternity. Mr. Ellison worked at the Layton Sugar Company, holding every position from firing boiler s to president of the company. He has served as mayor of Layton, town board member, charter president of the Layton Rotary Club, Bishop of the Layton 4th Ward, and past member of the stake high council in the San Francisco area. HE HAS been very active in politics, and was Republican County Chairman. He has held the positions of 1st and 2nd vice president of the Utah Municipal League and was elected president. Florence Cooley Ellison is THE BRIDE wore a gown that featured a zipped back, which he was a director. He then became its 4th president. the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Cooley of Layton. She was born in Mason City, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1905. She graduated from Davis High School. Florence and Harold were married in Malad, Ida., on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. MRS. ELLISON has been active in civic and church activities. She has served as PTA president, president of the Utah Federation of Womens Clubs, and was a member of the Bay View Literary Club. She has worked in the Primary and Relief Society organiza-- ; tions of the LDS Church. She has also been a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. During the last 15 years, Mr. and Mrs. Ellison have been managing the El Drisco Hotel in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco. THEY ARE the parents of six children, Mrs. Daryl C. (Jean) Warren, Denver, Colo. ; Captain John C. Ellison, who was missing in action in Vietnam in 1967, Harold E. Ellison Jr. (baby deceased), Mrs. Ralph W. (Kathryn) Firth, Layton; E. Peter Ellison, Sunset; and Edward (Ted Ellison, Fruit Heights. They have 18 grandchildren and four were Todd Rhodes, Randy Kidd, Keith Toyn and Jason Kidd.
