By DEANN GRIEGO j Recently the annual science"fair was held at Kaysville Jr. High where there were many interesting exhibits to see. ENTRIES were divided into three categories; physical, biologicaf and earth. There were prizes givem in each category for each grade.; SUSAN IPAKTCHIAN Y.Student Gains Honors In Journalism v LAYTON -- - A Brigham Young University senior has taken second place honors in Journalist of the Year awards presented by the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Press THE PROGRAM will consist of a variety of talent numbers. The Happy Birthday LePetit Ensemble, a Layton-base- d chamber choir, directed by Kathy Skidmore, will perform Sing We and Chant It and Sunrise, Sunset. Two area children's performing groups will be featured. They are Starburst, directed by Pam Evans and Jeanne Day. This group will sing and dance to a medley of country songs. "Sunshine Generation, another childrens group, will do a routine to "Puttin on the Ritz plus other numbers. The director for this group is Nancie Nalder. Mark Petersen, business manager for Weber State Colleges theater arts department, will be the master of ceremonies. He will also sing Nothing from A Chorus Line. Annette Anderson celebrates her first birtghday, Saturday. Shes the daughter of Roger and Debbie Anderson of 974 S. 50 W. in Layton. DOWN YONDER, a popular clogging tune will be performed by the Hay Day Cloggcrs under the direction of Jodie Orton. ONE VOICE, a 2 member choral group, will sing Memory and My Favorite Things. The Layton High School performing groups will be part of the variety show. Cyndia Thiros will direct the Junior and Senior Lancel-le- s through a precision drill number. The Layton Acappella Choir, directed by Joe Everton, will sing. Boyd Hunter will direct the Layton High Band. 1 : i ANOTHER interesting exhibit was called Music and Plants by Robert Marsden. The purpose ijf it was to determine if various type's of music affect the growth of plants. There were four plants used with number one not having any music and was not used for comparisons. Plant two was set to FM 88. and grew at an accelerated rate. Plant three was set to FM 100 and had normal growth. Finally, plant four was set to FM 103 and nearly djed. This one took fourth place in2the seventh grade. mows 9. ALSO ON the program will be a 50s dance medley performed by couples from the 23rd LDS Ward. Amy Firth and Linda Roberts will dance to the jazz tune Beat It. Gay Brown is the choreographer for this dance. A quartet consisting of, Jan Owens, Kathi Garlick, Jeanne Day and Teresa Barlow will sing Alexanders Ragtime Band, and "Peggy O'Neil. The Wells Family gymnasts will present the routine they have prepared for national competition to the music of Mister Roboto and Here Comes the Rain. This talented group is made up of Joe and Patty Wells and their seven children. dmg Highest Shooting Score Rocky Hamblin who is employed with the Kaysville City Police Department, won the highest over-a- ll score in "Shooting Competition at the Salt Lake City Police Academy on March 23. the special shooting award for his accomplishments and his certificate for graduation. He completed 400 hours of training. HE STARTED working with the Kaysville Police Department in September 1983, with Police Chief Lyle Larkins.
