Show eee, LAS VEGAS, Nev. (UPI)—A record 181 fighters were entered today in the National AAU senior boxing championships scheduled to get underway Wednesday night. The entries, more than double the former record of 72 at Cincinnati in 1962, are from 28 associations in the United States and Canada—the only foreigner this year being Canadian James McGowan, a 135-pounder from Vancouver, B.C. Drawing for tournament posi- tions was to be held at noon with the first bouts to begin later at the Convention Center here. Qualifiers from each of 10 weight divisions will join qualifiers from seven.other champion ships to form teams for the final Olympic Trials atthe New York World’s Fair in June. Foreign athletes will not be included. Two returning champs who won 1963 crowns at Utica, N.Y. were Wade Smith of the Indiana association, a former student at Idaho State, and Bob Williams, of the Pacific Association, an airman at Hamilton Field, Calif. Smith, who won in the 147pound division last year, will be fighting in the 156-pound class this year. Handsome Gregorio of Buenos Aires, who outpointed Pastrano in a non-title 10-round fight at Miami Beachlast Sept. 20, also was contented with a final two rounds at Curley’s punchasium. Because of that September victory and because of his impressive combinations against sparmate Calvin Campbell in Tuesday’s two rounds, Peralta is a slight favorite at 13-10 to win their nationally televised 15-round match at the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium. Peralta also is favored because of his last three victories including two decisions over contender Wayne Thornton of Fresno, Calif. Bulldog VAMAA Celtics in Montreal Toronto coach school teams.
