Infirmary Razing GRA Park Bids UnderStudy J. Hamilton Calder, manager and vice president of Walker Bank and Trust Co., Tues- day evening was presented with a recognition plaque for his many years of service to Utah County Chapter of American Institute of Banking. The award, first of its kind to be presented in Utah County, was made by Kenneth Harris, Pleasant Grove, chapter president, during an annual spring fashion show and dinner at Riverside Country Club. A native of Vernal, Mr. Calder served for many years as chairman of ProvoCity utilities board and is now a member of that board. J Long active in the banking group, he has been educational consultant and instructor in banking courses offered chapter members over many years. The American Institute of Banking ir the educational arm of the American Banking Association. Courses are offered to banking personnel, with three certificates offered: pre-standard, standard, and graduate. Clyde Thomas, former chaptter president, Bank of Spanish Fork, was awarded a pre-standard certificate. The traditional fashion show was presented with the theme, “Portrait in Fashion.” Historic fashions were recounted by Mrs. Jon (Janet) Clark, and modern fashions were described by Mrs. Brent R. (Faye) Beck. Conservation Club Topic “Soil Stewardship” was the topic under discussion this morning as Dr. Rudger H. Walker, dean of the College of Agriculture and Biological Science at BYU spoke before members of the Timpanogos Kiwanis Club. He was introduced by Lowell Woodward. Dr. Walker expressed his impressions received from his tour through many foreign countries where no plan of soil conservation has been planned. He told the group of -his visit last July in Jerusalem where herds of goats were grazing on rocky hillsides which were practically barren of foilage and soil. “While living in Iran from 1958 to 1960,” he said, “I saw small herds of goats grazing on hills where once great herds of cattle had sufficient grazing,” he said. “Relatively few watersheds are left,” he stated, “and in The M. The Utah County Commission said that the Costello firm’s bid for the work, including filling in the cellar, was $4,240—or for notfilling in the cellar $3,840. The firm estimates the project to last 18 days. A total of 10 firms bid on the project with the highest bid being $47,000 for the building plus the cellar work and $45,000 without the cellar work. The county commission has taken the bids under advisement for further study. We won without winning...We have done more than any other group to break the centralized control of government.” City-Wide Clean-Up OREM — The annualcitywide clean-up campaign sponsored by the Orem Chamberof Commerce is scheduled for April 20 through April 25 according to Paul Washburn, chamber chairmanof the event. The city council Monday night pledged its support of the campaign and agreed to provide city trucks for collecting refuse at various points throughout the city, on the main and final day of the cleanup — Saturday, April 25. Mr. Washburn said that the city has also agreed that garbage trucks will pick up trash set out along any street covered by regular garbage pickup runs, during the special week. The long sought water improvements will include covering of Alta Springs to meet board of health requirements, construction of a new reser- voir, installation of new water lines and replacement of some old ones and installation of an additional 116 fire hydrants at various points in the city. Mayor Jameson announced this morning that special groundbreaking ceremonies will be held Saturday at noon at 800 N. and 1300 E. The public is invited to attend. At the special session held Tuesday the council also voted to advertise for bids on installation of a section of a water line west of U.S. Highway 91 from 950 N. to 1200 N. This project is completely separate from the Accelerated Public Works Water Project.
