Show pooircopy Monti Letters Use Board awards contracts for Middle School . . . by Brace Jennings The South Sanpete School District direct appeal To the Editor: 1 have been interested in the letters of those opposing some of the entertainment being offered in our community. Surely entertainment of a pornographic nature is not good, to put it mildly. I wonder if the best method of dealing with it has been used. Has anyone made a direct appeal to those who sponsor it? Sometimes a direct appeal is the best method. To illustrate: Years ago a man had a beautiful garden at the intersection of 5th West and the River Lane. A local sheepman went to him and advised him that he should put up a fence around his garden as the sheep had to pass it on their way to the mountains. The gardener ignored the advice, but after the sheep trampled his garden, he was furious. He called the sheepmans wife on the phone and vented his anger. Her husband went to the gardener and offered to pay for the damage. "And furthermore, he said, "Ill buy you a fence to put around your garden. The gardener was mollified. That wont be necessary," he said. And all summer he shared the produce of his garden with the sheepmans family and even gave them parsnips the next spring. That spring the sheepman called the railroad officials and obtained permission to take his sheep along the tracks to avoid the garden. In obtaining practical results, what can we learn from his example? Lets remember to tell Shannons that we appreciate having a good restaurant in town. We really do. And then remind them that we'd like their entertainment to be on a par with the excellence of their food and service. One of the most fun things 1 do is go down to the Pageant grounds about 8 oclock, wander around and look for people I know. Invariably as I walk down one of the aisles someone will shout, Hey, is that really Max Call? Most of them recognize me, although some acknowledge that Ive aged just a bit. The thing that makes them sure that its me is the haircut. With so few of us left in the workd who know how a mans hair should be cut, we stand out pretty well.
