BY DORIS LARSEN On Tuesday, April 15, Eric Nicholls, Snow's Maintenance J Repair Supervisor, will turn in his "hard hat, put away his hammer and drill, and begin spending some pleasant years doing things hes not had time for before. , W t , r i On board when Eric came Floyd Holm was President of Snow College, and has worked for Marvin Higbee and Steven Bennion. Hilmer Peterson was head of the Maintenance Department at the time, and he, Eric, Fred Bailey and Ivan Alder made up the crew. This was in April , Mr. and Mrs. LaVor Taylor LaVor was born in Ephraim to Tom and Hannah Taylor. His mother died in 1908 when LaVor was 12 years old. At age 16, he began shearing sheep with his father. He did this for 10 years and then in 1921 decided to go to barber college in Salt Lake. He passed the state exam and began his barber practice in Ephraim in 1922 at The Palace Barbershop. Marguerite was born in Ephraim, to Charlie and Annie Stevens. After completing high school, she graduated from Snow College having earned a teacher's certificate. She then attended classes at the University of Utah in 1915. LaVor ;r went to Salt Lake to continue thcir- courtship while . Marguerite was ' studying at the U. After nine years of marriage, LaVor and Marguerite combined resources and opened a combined beauty shopbarber shop which was called LaMarguerites Beauty Shop. In 1945, he was elected to be the president of the Sheep Shearers Union of North America. He served in many positions in Ephraim and received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, particularly with shearing sheep. He is an active member of the LDS . rf Church and has served as president of Ephraim's North Ward YMMIA. He is now a high priest in the Ephraim 2nd LDS Ward. Marguerite has been active in various civic and ladies organizations in Ephraim. She has served as Primary President, counselor in the YWM1A, Relief Society secretary and spent 40 years in the Messiah Chorus. She was president of the American Legion Auxiliary. LaVor and Marguerite are parents of four children: Dr. Donald L. Taylor of San Clemente, California, Norma Lawrence of Fontana, California, Mrs. (Senator) Bill (Margenc) Campbell of Hacienda Heights, California, and Zane Taylor of Orem, Utah. There have been a lot of changes on the campus during those 24 years. Eric remembers that the only buildings on campus then, in addition to the Noyes Building and the old gym (now the Dee Anderson Business Building) were Fern Young Hall, Greenwood Hall, and the (some "Cottages apartments used to house students). "The cafeteria had just been completed," Eric recalls, "and it was about ready to be used when I came to work here. So he has seen the campus grow to its present size during his years of employment. Now only does the campus cover a much larger area now, but the studentbody has grown dramatically as well. During the years, he has supervised as many as six men. He is indeed a handy man and a "man of all trades, which proved invaluable to Snow during the years of his employment. tSA: Born and raised in Ephraim, Eric is the son of Mrs. Alta Bastion and the late Elmer Nicholls. He is married to the former Elgia Braithwaite of Manti. A veteran of World War II, Eric served a stint in the U.S. Navy. In fact, he was aboard the U.S.S. Lexington when it was hit and sunk by enemy fire in the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. Eric and Elgia have four children Dale Lee, Ephraim; Glen, Fountain Green; Suzanne Cox and Carol Shaw, Manti.
