Show Social Scene Thursday, April 17, 19M o, Messengor-Enterpris- 3 Pag Phyllis Smith to chair Cancer Crusade drive Phyllis Smith of Sterling has been named General Crusade Chairman for the South Sanpete Unit of the American Cancer Society for 1986. The announcement was made by Rose Mclff, local Unit President. Assisting as Community Chairmen of the Cancer Crusade will be Edith Willardsen, Ephraim; and Margaret Shand, Pauline Yardley, Gail Buchanan, and Linda McArthur, assisting in Manti. A large number of volunteers will also be serving as block chairmen in Ephraim, Manti and Sterling. The Cancer Crusade will be held during April, Cancer Control Month. The annual campaign not only raises funds for the Societys research, service and education programs, but to the sun. Our message is that how you live may save your life, Mrs. Mclff added. The purpose of this years Crusade is to inform as many people in the South Sanpete area as possible about cancer prevention, early detection and treatment, research and education programs. Davidson of Manti, Utah, and Mable 0. Field Nielson of Pleasant View, Utah, will celebrate their 88th birthday in Manti on Thursday April 17, 1986. They were bom on twin street in Beaver, Utah to Charles Frederick and Celinda Jane Twitchell Olson. They were raised in Manila, Daggett County (Uintah County) Utah, where their family homesteaded land where Flaming Gorge Dam and reservoir was later located. Alburn Lyon and the Gary Lyon Funeral services for Clatie Peterson Anderson, 85, were held in Hawthorne, Nevada Thursday, April 17, 1986. Mrs. Anderson died in Hawthorne, April 11, 1986. She was the daughter of Alonzo and Emily King. She married Arvil Peterson and lived in Spring City for a number of years while she raised her family of four sons and one daughter, Blair, Ethcn, Russell, Elmo and Arva. After her family was raised she moved to Ephraim and lived for many years. She worked at the sewing plant during the war years. She later moved to Hawthorne to be with her son, Ethen and family. She was a sister of Arthur King of Ephraim and Jewel Larsen of St. George. Postmasters attending convention in Moab Many of the postmasters in Sanpete County are in attendance at the Golden Anniversary (50th annual) convention of the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States An (NAPUS) in Moab, April estimated 135 postmasters, active and retired; guests and out of state visitors are expected to attend according to host postmaster, Lew Prowse of Moab. 15-1- Chaptef President E. Kelly Korth, Honeyville, is presiding over the meetings which also include several training seminars. Several postal officials from the Salt Lake City division headquarters will be in attendance. Howard Tokheim, of the Phoenix Inspector-in-Charg- e office of the Postal Inspection Service, will also address the convention. The Phoenix office has jurisdiction over the state of Utah. A golf tournament, dance, tours of the parks, a steak fry and river rides on the Colorado are among the social events planned during the convention for the enjoyment of those attending. PostmasterPresidcnt Korth said the convention will conclude at mid-da- y Friday with the closing luncheon at which the results of the annual election of chapter officers will be disclosed. The new officers will be given the oath of office by one of the attending national officers and they will not assume office until August of this year. Clean Up and Beautify your Yard! western Ephraim City moving Prenatal ahead on beautification classes set Ephraim City is setting the example for its citizens. It presently has city crews cleaning and beautifying the city. Main street is looking better with its cleaning and washing. Another spot to receive attention the past week is the lot adjacent to and west of the Mental Health Clinic. At a meeting of the Ephraim Up Committee held April 9th, progress assessment was made and follow-u- p action. Area Chairmen were apprised of their duties. Chairmen have been appointed for each area which comprise the boundaries of the five Ephraim LDS wards. Chairmen who will now appoint block chairmen on each block and direct the activities in their respective areas are: Area : Mont Jacobsen, 2: Lee J. Anderson. 3: Farrin Mangleson, 4: Steve Hall, and 5: Norval and Ruth Campbell. The baby, who was named Wendy Ann, was born February 24, 1986 in Logan. She weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz. She has two sisters Jennifer, 4 and Kristie, 2 and a brother Joseph, 6 who are happy to have a new sister. Beginning in May, an award will be presented each week to the person who has done the most that week to improve his surroundings. This award will be known as the BEL (Beautify Every Lot Award). Anyone having suggestions or recommendations for people who should receive the award or what others might do is asked to write them up and drop them in the suggestion box at the city hall. Prenatal classes will begin in the Gunnison Valley Hospital on Tuesday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. The classes are under Registered Nurse Sara Donaldson, and will run every Tuesday night for 6 weeks. Meetings will be held at the hospital in the sun room.
