BY WILBUR BRAITH WAITE Summer tennis instruction and Your Child: This Week Success in School by at the LDS Institute JIM CAMPBELL Utah Education Association President by Barry Baker A couple of decades ago, a popular song was entitled, Later Than You Think. Its It told us a truth that we didnt wantto hear. It said were all running out of time. The song is undoubtedly more appropriate for today. For example, PTA Today magazine published this sad message that was handed to an educator by a little boy: My parents and I arent so close, they both work and often leave before I get up in the morning and get home after I go to bed. When I see them its a treat. How can I get close to them? Is it possible that we parents can look for our schedules to be less demanding in the future? Maybe. Maybe not. But Ellen Rosenberg, the educator who received that note, offers several thoughts for par ents on using the time well that is available with the children. She writes: We tend to think, 'Oh, I only have 10 minutes before I have to leave. Families that are especially busy would do well to realize that the quality of the moment can mean so much. A walk around the block can mean more than you could imagine. A short conversation during which there is at least time to let that perso.n know thathe or she is loved and missed can mean so much. If we dont have hours to spend, we need to appreciate the time we have together. five-minu- te Its Later Than You Think that tells us more than the fact that were running out is a song oftime. The lyrics also offer this message to all of us: Enjoy yourself."
