Templars post 22-- 7 win over Park City, place 2nd in Region BY BRUCE JENNINGS An easy 22-- 7 defeat of Park City and the lucky call of a coin toss earned Manti High Schools football team second place in the Region 9 standings, a bye in n this weeks play and a position in next weeks State inter-regio- quarterfinals. The coin toss, with Grand County (Moab) High School the other participant, had Manti the winner. As a consequence the Templars will have a bye this week while eight other teams vie for spots in the quarterfinal round. Theyll play the winner of todays playoff between Kanab and Juab at a time to be arranged next week on the Snow Field. That game is scheduled for 2-- A October 28, but will be moved up to October 27, if possible, because of Snows homecoming game Saturday. In the opening minutes of the Snow College football game, last Saturday, it became obvious the Artichokes from Scottsdale, Arizona had their hands full with Snow. When the game ended the score was 4 in favor of Snow College. Snows defense was tenacious from the opening kickoff to the end of the ball game, causing several turnovers. Tom Bell started the defense on a roll by sacking Scottsdales quarterback putting Snow in great field position. A touchdown pass from Stevens to Duncan Boyd put Snow up On Scottsdales few first possessions, they never cleared their own 20 yard line. Snows defense was that tough. Scottsdale attempted a punt, but the snap was over Borozinskis head and into the end zone. Snow gained two points on a safety after a bad pass from center by Scottsdale. The Lady Templars took a 2 conference record to the tournament, which had eight teams competing. They played Park City Tuesday night at eight in a bracket that also included South 5-- Summit and North Sanpete. Winners played winners and losers losers in Wednesdays matches. This years Lady Templar team has only two seniors: Jill Congdon and Rebecca Jorgensen. The other members are Naloni Gordon, Kirstin Brenchley, Teresa Buchanan, Linda Alder, Heather Stevens, Alesa Patterson, Susan Cox, Kami Traci Miller, Janet Chadwick and Heather Baker. Snow College graduate leads Manti High band Robert Beal, the new band director at Ephraim Middle School and Manti High School, feels quite at home in the posi- tournament f tion. A graduate of Lehi High School, he attended Snow Coland then selege in 1984-87 cured a bachelors degree in music education at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Mr. Beal was assistant direc- manager at UNLV. In addition to his appointment, the South Sanpete School District Board of Education approved the appointment of several other people during its October meeting. Halloween Carnival scheduled for Oct. 31 Ephraim Elementary School Halloween Carnival, sponsored the Parent Teachers Association, will be held on Oct. 31, by 1989. Dinner will be served in the lunch room from 5:30-- 7 :30 p.m. The menu will include hot dogs, sloppy joes and will be reasonably priced. The carnival activities are from 6 to 8 p.m. These include: games in the classrooms, spook alley, fortune telling and many other activities. There will be a raffle with many items and gift certificates donated from local businesses. There will also be a queen size quilt. Tickets are 2 $1.00 and can be purchased from 0 J.
