Show Messenger-Enterpris- Page 9 Thursday, May 9, 1991 e, Executive Council at Snow is formed With the appointment of five new students, the selection process of the 1991-9- 2 Executive Council at Snow College is now complete. The new members of the student council join the six officers who were elected by their peers during elections in April. Kirk Larsen, from Ephraim, was selected to be the Vice President who will lead the Associated Mens Students group. Kirks counterpart, who will lead the Snow College PBLClub Snow College PBL Business Club wins award in state competition Nine members of the Snow PBL business club returned from the state competition in Salt Lake City with individual medals and helped the Snow contingent win four chapter awards. The PBL (Phi Beta Lambda) leadership conference was held in Salt Lake City on April 5 and 6. The Snow College students distinguished themselves by winning awards against four College year schools and universities like Weber State, Southern Utah University and Utah State. The following students took one or more awards at the competition: Sarah Larsen, Ephraim, 3rd place in shorthand, -- 4th place as an administrative assistant - typist, and 1st place for the annual Chapter business and activities report. Leanne Seely, Castle Dale, 1st place in Business communications, 1st place for the community service report, and 3rd place in machine transcription. Helen Sema-den- i, Monticello, took 4th place in the job interview category and 5th place in information Bonnie Jean management. Chisholm, Salt Lake City, finished in 2nd place in the business principles area. Sandra Jones, Salt Lake City, finished 2nd as an administrative assistant secretary. Chapter President Anna Podlesny, Sandy, took 5th place in the job interviews and an honorable mention in impromptu speaking. As president she also accepted the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit for the Chapter at Snow. Pat Brimley, Magna, and Pam King, Richfield, both were awarded honorable mention awards for the job interview category. The team won 1st place in the state for both their community service project and their annual chapter activities report. They were also awarded honorable mention for their state project and the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit. It was an extremely successful trip for the Snow College team which will compete in the Nationals sometime in June. Sanpete Search and Rescue honored for volunteerism Sanpete County Search & Rescue was one of 29 recipients honored for outstanding volunteer efforts at a dinner last week at the Governors Mansioa At the dinner, which was hosted by the Governor and Utahs First Lady and the Utah Council of Volunteers, a certificate of appreciation was presented to a recipient from every county in Utah, signifying the strong spirit of volunteerism that exists in our state. Kerry Deuel accepted the certificate of appreciation on behalf of the organization. Members of this group were cited for the many hours spent on traffic and crowd control at the Mormon Miracle Pageant, Sanpete County Fair and sports activities, as well as the time spent rescuing stranded hunters, skiers and snowmobilers. Colleen Bangerter, honorary chair of the Utah Council of Volunteers, said: These 29 individuals play such an important role in society. County Sheriff Activity Report On April 2, a search warrant was served in Centerfield, Utah by Narcotics Task Force and Gunnison Police Department. Arrested was Mark Christensen, age 34, of Centerfield, for possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of illegal wildlife. On April 10, in Manti, Narcotics Task Force and Sanpete County Sheriffs department arrested Roger Tuft, age 30, and Ilian Houghton Tuft, age 34. They were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Over two ounces or maryuana was seized in the arrest Sanpete County Sheriffs Department is investigating information they received from a juvenile arrest by Sheriff Buchanan in March for theft and burglary of two houses in the Spring City area. To this date there have been over 40 cabin burglaries from Fairview . to Spring City cleared. Suspects are in custody. One adult and one juvenile were arrested for a burglary and theft of a motorbike taken from Palisade Park on April 26. Blake Edwards was the investigating officer. On April 27, an adult was arrested in Moroni by Sanpete County Deputy Gary Larson for DUI and possession of a controlled substance. On April 19, eight juveniles were arrested for possession and illegal consumption of alcohol when nine deputy sheriffs and two corrections officers reached a beer party west of the Gunnison Reservoir.
