BRUCE JENNINGS Manti and North Sanpete will face off in their regular season ending basketball Friday night at 7:30 in the Templar gym. The Templars will bringa record in Region 9 action to the game; the Hawks are But records dont mean a lot in this traditional rivalry. Manti, though highly favored, was hard pressed to win by one point in threeovertimes in their previous meeting this season. 9-- 1 3-- More is at stake in this game than possession of the dolls Sandy and Peter. If the Templars win Friday night they 'll be the No. 1 team in the Region 9 tournament at Snow College a week from now. If they lose, they tie with either Park City or Morgan, who play at Park City Friday night. That was one of their two losses. The other was Park City. Whatever the outcome of Friday nights games, one thing is certain: the Templars will play Morgan or Park City, or both in the Region 9 tournament. And either one can be a formidable opponent when a championship is at stake. What will North Sanpete bring to the Manti hardwood Friday night? Russ Buttars, a three-poin- t shooter who hit for 27 in that game; Clint Jensen, who had 18, three other pla ers who were in double figures, and a strong bench, an very active and vocal fan support. Back from intermission, the Templars went on another run, tallying 19 points while holding the Bulldogs to 11. At the start of the fourth period Manti was ahead 52 to 39 and apparently in full control. But the Bulldogs kept whittling away, wore down the Templar lead by seven points with four minutes still on the clock and were behind by only five with two minutes left. But the Bulldogs fouled repeatedly in the closing moments in the attempt to catch up and the Templars rebuilt their lead with three baskets and the rest at the foul two-poi- basketball team handed their coach, Maryln Harmer, a couple of firsts over the weekend when they picked up two more wins against conference opponents. When the Lady Badgers blasted CEU on Friday 7 it was the first time Harmer coached a team to a win in Price. 78-5- Saturday night the ladies smashed Northwestern Colorado Community to win their 15th College of the year. This is the game first time in her four seasons at 77-3- 8 Snow College that one of Marylns teams has won 15 games. Sue Ellen (ShurtlifD had a great game, said Harmer. She made a half court shot just before the buzzer at halftime to put us up by nine points. Sue finished the game with 29 points, four assists, two steals, two blocked shots and made eight out of ten from the free throw line. The wins improved the Lady Badgers record to 15-- and, more in conference importantly, play. This team is giving their coach all kinds of firsts this season. Two weeks ago the team picked up Harmers first-eve- r win at Dixie College. Last 8 9-- 5 Gunnisons big scorers were Roland Anderson with 23, including three and Darwin Higgins with 18. three-pointer- s, Mantis five starters were also its top marksmen. Mark Nielsen had 21; Steve Olson, 16; Travis Thompson, 14; Brent Rasmussen, 13, and Wayne Graham, 10. But the starting five also got some strong support as Coach Craig substituted freely. Saturday night the ladies combined for another great team effort which translated into another victory. Another Badger stepped forward to lead the team. Linda Livingston led the team with 16 points. She also had six rebounds and four steals. Coach Harmer was full of praise for her, Lou (Linda) just had a great game. She is really coming on right now and it couldnt have happened at a better time. Juli Smith also had a great night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Badgers have now won five straight conference games and seem to be peaking at the right time of the year. There were some goals we set for the Colorado game that we didnt reach but for the most part we are sitting where we Friday Forum Speaker Named Ted L. If you, or your organization, are sponsoring an event for which money is charged, you can substantially improve the success of that event by advertising. The extra participation which the advertising creates will usually far exceed the cost of the advertising. Therefore, we cannot continue to give free publicity to events that charge money, at least we cannot stay in business and provide that service free. Our policy is: YOU CHARGE - WE CHARGE. If it costs money to participate in your event, we will charge you for the publicity.
