Sports Information Director The teacher returned to Badger Stadium Saturday and received a 48-- lesson from the 7 pupil. The teacher, former Badger Head Coach Walt Criner returned to Snow College for the first time since his national championship season of 1985, as the current head coach of the Arizona Western Matadors. The pupil, Badger Head Coach Paul Tidwell, had a lesson of his own for Criner. One of the most important things that I learned from Criner was winning, said Tidwell. Snow College wasted little time in getting their first score. Under the leadership of redshirt freshman JoeBorich.theBadgers marched into the end zone with a combination of passing and rushingthatremainedabalanced attack throughout the day. Snow College had one of its most balanced attacks of the past few years with 182 yards rushing and 143 yards passing. We have some depth at running back, said Offensive Coordinator Mike Canales. We also have some great versatility. Defensively the Badgershave oneoftheirbestteamssince 1985. We have 10 returning starters from previous years, said Defensive Coordinator Bronco Mendenhall. Last year we worked on techniques, this year we have the chance to do some great things." Great things for the Badgers meant limiting Arizona Western to just seven points and those points came in the fourth quarter when the game was all but over for the Matadors. Snow College held the New alignment of UHSAA to affect Manti, Gunnison The Utah High School Activities Assn, has established a new 1993-9- 7 alignment that will affect both Gunnison and Manti High Schools. Gunnison and Manti High Schools, for several years assigned to Region 9, will become members of Region 12, a region, and will compete with Delta, North Sanpete, Juab, Millard and Grand. And in state tournaments theyll compete with 14 other schools that have school 9 range. populations in the 2-- A 2-- A 175-49- For state tournaments, however, Delta and North Sanpete will move over to compete with the larger schools that have populations in the range. Its all a part of a general overhaul of high school 2-- A 500-99- 9 alignments. The advantages to Gunnison and Manti High Schools, according to Darrell Warren, South Sanpete School District administrative assistant, Region 9 chairman and a member of the realignment committee, will be less travel and competition more nearly in their student population size. Under the realignment what will become of the traditional Region 9 round robin that has basketball teams competing for places in the state 2-- A tournament? Were trying to arrange a round robin that will include both Region 12 and Region 13, Mr. Warren said. By way of explanation, in the new program, instead of two Region schools - Regions 9 and 10 there will be four Regions 10, 11, 12 and 13. Regions 12 and 13 include schools in the central and southern parts ofthe state; Regions 10 and 11 in the northern part. Thus the saving in travel. 2-- A -- - - 2-- A And why a Region 12 and 13 round robin anyway? Partly, Mr. Warren says, tradition, partly fan interest and partly the revenue it produces that helps support other 1 activities. Were Making Difference. weekend.
