Show Rebuttal To Arguments For Arguments For Proposition Ao. I Ao opposing argument was submitted .) The Legislative General Session Would Marl One Later To Allow Consideration of the Budget I sing Fiscal Data More I Week fiscal data is current!) not available until near the end of the annual General Session, leav me the Legislature precious luile time to consider budgetary mailers. This revision would move the beginning dale of the session to one week later, giv ing the Legislature a much needed extra seven day s al the end ol the session loconsider the budget using more Ip-lo-d- ate accurate figures. The Legislature Would Have 60 Days to Consider Overriding a Governor's Veto Currently. the constitution provides no tune limit on when the Legislature may consider a governor's veto. This re-ision would require the Legislature to consider a vetoed item w iilim 60 dav sailer the session in which that item was passed. Tins would prevent a tut ure legislature from overriding a veto that took place months or even years before the override attempt. The Legislature now by rule sets a 60 dav deadline, but rules can be changed by a simple majority vote. v -- The Senate Would Have More Time to Consider Judicial Appointments he Senate now has 30 davs to consider a judicial appointment made by the Governor. 1 he Legislature is part time and meets only once a month when not in session. On these monthly meetings the Senate will generally meet loconsider the Governor's appointments. Sometimes the Senate will have onlv a dav or two to consider the nominee before the 30dav limit ends. This revision would extend the 30-d- ay limit to 60 days, to give the Senate adequate time to consider these important judicial appointments. This would enable the I Senate to consider these nominees at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting and not be forced to meet in a special additional meeting at taxpayer expense w bile not unduly delaying an appointment. All Legislative Terms Would llegin on the Same Day Currently, there are two conflicting provisions in the constitution. One states that legislators' terms begin on the first the other states that they begin on the Monday of January first day of January. This revision simply clarities this ambiguity and provides that all legislative terms begin on the first day of January. Senator l.yle W. Ilillyard 75 Fast First North Logan. I tab S432I |
