Of course it is impossible to respond exactly in every way everyone wants. We, your representatives in this system of government, understand that we listen to the majority, or rather what we judge to be a majority of those we represent. I would like to commend a great many of our citizens in Ephraim for being so interested in our local government. Almost every time the City Council meets, we are accompanied by a room full of interested citizen observers. We wish for you to recognize that we consider this sign as very healthy. So many citizens are interested in the detailed plans and development of their city. CITIZENS EXPRESS CONCERN In the late Fall and again in the early Spring time it is very easy to observe one of the main reasons for the city approved weed ordinance. Aside from the aspect of beauty and an appearance of order, we note that it is most evident that an uncut lot of weeds andor grasses poses a serious fire danger to all buildings next to them. Especially is this most dangerous of course when a strong south wind is blowing. We have been asked the simple question by some citizens in the past who ask why we have a weed ordinance in rural towns such as Ephraim. Again, we feel that most citizens prefer a neat and well trimmed lot; but also, we may ask the most obvious question to them in response: How many homes and other property can you afford to pay fire damages against, if a strong wind fans a fire in your uncut weedy lot?" WHATS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE... That which disturbs most people is when all are not treated alike by city or other government officers. We pledge ourselves to attention in this matter. We agree that in the past it appears that some citizens have been overlooked and given special favors and consideration. We will weed inspector be hiring a part-tim- e time the it takes to to spend willing make proper inspections and followup visits to sites of violation. We hereby send a plea to all property owners to comply with our request that they please cut their weeds and otherwise care for their property. Lets not wait until the state clean up day of May 14, 1994. Please remember all burning must be cleared with a permit from the fire marshall. Gaylen B. Saturday, March 26, 1994 . -t V i Y Christ is the key central act of all human history. There is nothing even remotely comparative. There were many prophecies in the Old and New Testament and in the Book of Mormon prior to the atonement that described what was involved. We are told, for instance, that Jesus would be spat upon, and he was. We are told he would be struck, hit in the face, and he was. We are told he :: I Daryl Jay and Janice Cluff of Manti are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Joyce Ann, to Jeffrey J. Guymon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny and Marie Johnson and the late Lany J. Guymon of Huntington, Utah. The couple will be married April 1, 1994, in the Manti L.D.S. Temple. A reception will be held in their honor that evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the chapel on 100 S. Main Street in Manti. All friends are invited to attend. Joyce Ann graduated from Manti High School, the Manti L.D.S. Seminary, and Snow College. She would be scourged, and he was. Were told he would be offered vinegar and gall when he was thirsty, and he was. David in a messianic psalm the very words that Jesus would use on the cross at his most agonizing point. Those words as you know are My God! My God! Why hast Thou forsaken me?" Were told in prophecy none of his bones would be broken. By the time the Roman guards came around the cross, Jesus was dead, so they did not snap his leg bones as they sometimes did to hasten the passage of time of death. Every prophecy about the atonement was completely fulfilled. It is marvelous. Only in the Book of Mormon, however, do we encounter the phrase, Infinite Atonement, two words. What does infinite mean? It is an infinite atonement in that the son of God was offered as the redeemer for our sins. One only needs to look at the airline industry and other transportation industries like busing to see disastrous effects of competition on rural areas. These transportation services now are either non existent or almost too expensive to use in low volume areas. The paradox in deaveraging toll is that rural citizens presently make more long distance phone calls per capita than city counterparts, even though their per capita incomes are much lower. When the governor an- nounced his vision of an electronic super highway to all parts of the state, we too had a vision of much improved medical and educational opportunities for our area. We also had the expectation of attracting high tech industries to our area through the use of these facilities. If toll rates are in fact deaveraged, the dream of these opportunities will remain just that, a dream. Our rural areas will be even further disadvantaged. We appreciate your concern in this matter and hope that some mechanism can be placed to maintain the goals of universal service and keep toll rates averaged throughout the state. Sincerely, Joseph C. Blain, Executive Director, Sanpete County Chamber of Commerce Easter Message From Manti Utah Stake Presidency John Squire earns masters degree Elder Jon David Cluff It has come to the attention of the Sanpete Chamber of Commerce that in a proposal by the Division of Public Utilities for die restructuring of the States Universal Service Fund, the Division recommends that state wide toll rates be deaveraged. The Division further recommends that each telephone company file tariffs to replace the simple US West state wide toll rates. It is our opinion that to deaverage intrastate toll rates would have disastrous economic effects on our existing businesses and also the future of economic development in our county. Under the present plan of Uniform Statewide Toll rates, toll rates are distance sensitive and averaged across the state. If these rates were to be deaveraged, as recommended by the Division, rates would vary from city to town and from telephone company to telephone company, depending on calling volumes andor competition in an area. There is little question that this would force Woodscross, Marilyn and Jim smaller rural telephone companies to Maxfield, Salt Lake City, and Jean raise their rates and also US West to and Charles Rasmussen, Provo. possibly raise its rates in areas where His funeral and burial, with there is no competition. To make it infinite, the Son of God was sacrificed. Elder James Talmage says of Jesus on the cross, The Father withdrew his immediate presence from Jesus which is why he made this forsaken cry in order that Jesus triumph would be complete. There were scriptures that prophesied he would be alone. Brigham Young says, On Calvary the Father withdrew his presence from Jesus, and he withdrew his spirit from him, and Jesus was alone. It was an incredible aloneness that caused the great cry that David had prophesied, My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken me? There was no answer then to Jesuss why question. Something we may want to bear in mind when we ask our kind of why questions is that sometimes the answers come later. In that terrible hour we find Jesus saying, as you know, near the end, It is finished. He kept his grip on himself, and Jesus grip on himself is our grip on eternity. May we ponder the gift Jesus Christ gave us that first Easter season and resolve to be kinder, more gentle and more loving to our fellow citizens and neighbors of the world.
