Manti. three-pointer- 39-3- Manti Templars clinch Region with wins over Gunnison, Millard BY NATE GEDGE The Manti Templars clinched the Region 12 regular season championship and top seed for the region tournament with a hard earned 49-3- victory over the 8 Gunnison Bulldogs in Gunnison last Wednesday, February 8th. Manti capped off the week with another road victory, this time over the Millard Eagles in Millard, 72-6- 3. In the battle against rival Gunnison, the Templars raced to a 1 lead at the end of the xst 1 5-- f 1 quarter and extended its lead to 2 at the intermission. The Templars outscored the Bulldogs' in the second half 6 to gain the victory and clinch the region crown. Rich Andersen and Mike Barton scored 10 points apiece to lead the Templars. Brian Keisel added 8 points, Greg Jacobsen 6 points, and Mike Cox, Alan Cox and Scott Djreng 5 points each. Against the Eagles on Friday, February 10th, the Manti players had a tough time getting moti 27-2- 24-1- vated. Of the two losses the Treasure Valley loss will affect the Badgers the most. Without a doubt, said Head Coach Jon Judkins. Not too many teams will win at Twin Falls, but to lose at Treasure Valley, the players will remember that game as long as they live. I know I will. The Badgers might have done better had they not even got off the 1 87-9- didn't matter which players Judkins had on the floor, nobody stepped up to win the game. The Badgers played just hard enough to maintain a lead throughout the first half of no more than seven points and just two at the bus. It half. Snow College could do no wrong against the Lady Chuckars on Friday night. The Lady Badgers had 16 points on the board before Treasure Valley could get a score of their own. TVCC only managed 13 points by halftime to the Badgers 43 points. The Lady Badgers had four players in double figures. Mandy Hodges led the way with 2 points on 70 percent shooting and nine before cooled off, but the defensive effort was there to keep the game close. rebounds. Berry had five steals and Rachel Hester added 10 points. Peterson added 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Badgers. I was happy with the way we said Coach JoAnn Jeppson. That is a hard place to play. The crowd is always into the game and a big factor. We made a great comeback and made it a close game. The Lady Badgers had their chances to win the game, but after spending the effort to catch up, could never get and hold a lead. Snow College will have two important games at home this week against the College of Eastern Utah and Colorado Northwestern. This will be the last regular season game for the GBB. On Tuesday, February 21, the GBB region Round Robin Tournament will begin. The first round game will be played on the winning, first ranked teams court. Game times are as follows: freshman, 4 p.m.; junior varsity, 5:30 p.m.; and varsity, 7 p.m. The boys basketball (BBB) will play Juab at Juab on Friday, February 17. This will be the BBBs last regular season game. The region Round Robin Tournament for the BBB will begin on Feb. 22. The playing field will be the first ranked teams home court. Game times will be as follows: freshmansophomorc, 3:30 p.m.; junior varsity, 5:30 p.m.; and varsity, 7 p.m. State Drill Team will be Saturday, February 8, at Richfield.
