On May 6, Manti traveled to Gunnison where they lost 10-- 0 to the number one ranked team in the state. The game started with Manti having the momentum, but they stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd and the pendulum swung back to Gunnison. The Templars wound up with only three hits as they were shut out for the first time in regular season play. The Templars then faced a must-wi- n situation as they hosted the Juab Wasps on May 9. A vic- - tory for the Templars would put them in a tie with Juab for 3rd place. Kurt Keisel gave up only 3 hits, 4 walks and one run while striking out 9 for this victory to keep the season alive for Manti. Juab scored first and were up when Kurt Keisel drove in Kenny Cox for the tying run and Kevin Brown scored the winning run on a passed ball that got away from Juabs catcher. After winning the rest of their games last weekend, Morgan and Millard fell into a four-wa- y tie with Manti and Juab for only two remaining spots. A playoff game was selected through a coin toss which sent Manti to Lehi where they will have faced Morgan last T uesday. At the same -0 . . time, Millard and Juab will have faced off at Gunnison with the two winning teams moving into the state playoffs which began Thurs- iifC r " n day. If Manti beats Morgan they travel to Moab to play Grand County or to Blanding to play San Juan in the quarter final game at 3 p.m. Thursday. A victory in this afternoons game would send Manti into the semifinal game, which will be played w ill either at BYU May 1 9 and a victory there would send them into the final game which will be held next Friday, also at BYU. The state tournament is a single elimination system which would eliminate Manti with a single loss. 'Jfi i -- i The Manti High School tennis team recently competed in the state tournament at BYU.
