Show Layton Holds Dual Novice Gym Meet A duel beginner meet was held at the new home of the of Layton between the and the Aquarians of - Ogden. ComLAYTON rs petitors ranged from strict beginners with only a few weeks lessons under their belts to beginner novice who could do no more than two handsprings but who must have at least one in each' pass. A sample pass was: roundoff, back roll, back walkover, back : walkover, back roll. A real beginner would do something like cartwheel, cartwheel, front roll, cartwheel, front roll. It may have been a little boring for the judges, but for hundred or so boys and girls who competed, a lot of fun and very scary depending on who you talked to. ; Awards were received by all competitors with 7th and below receiving participation ribbons. The Wildcats will find out in a hurry just how good they are on Thursday night against the 12-- 1 Idaho Vandals. Saturday, the Cats trade opponents with Idaho State and tangle with Boise State in Boise while ISU is at Idaho. Coach Don Monsons Vandals have been the surprise of the entire intermountain area thus far in 1980-8winning their first 12 in row before losing to Oklahoma State last week in the finals of the Tournament in Oklahoma City. The Lady Wildcats will host the Clan from Simon Fraser University in a game on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Dee Events Center. This will be the final game for the lady Cats before conference play begins on January 22 against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Simon Fraser comes into Ogden with an record. The leading scorer for the Clan is Tracey Huclack who is averaging 24 points and six rebounds per game. It should be a good matchup between Haclack and Cindy Stumph who is also averaging 24.3 i points per game. Weber State took third place in the recent Copper Classic held at BYUs Marriott Center last Friday and Saturday by defeating Utah State Stumph led all scorers and rebounders in that game with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Owens is averaging 14.6 points per game and hit for 30 in the Oklahoma State game and was named to the Team. Close behind Owens in the scoring race is 5 Dan Forge. Forge, who had been a steady reserve for the past two seasons, has been a pleasant surprise for Monson. His 14.5 average is second to Owens.
