Smith filmed some school activity during his visit for later broadcast, DANIEL TALBOT, 4, listens intently while a speaker describes the world of work. at his preschool Preschoolers Learn About Community " JOYCE DAVIES SHANE OPENSHAW FREDDY COOK DONNA WOOD KAYSVILLE Preschoolers have been learning about careers and those people who do various jobs in the community during Community Helpers Week at Winters Wonderland Preschool and Day Care in Kaysville. Last week the schools group of children, who range in age from 2 to 6, visited a local grocery store to watch the baker, meet the cutter and a cashier at work. Wednesday, the school was visited by several parents and others, including Chuck Smith of KSL Television; Steve Knecht of the Kaysville Police Department; Becky Boydstun, a hair stylist; Michael Brown, a Davis High School teacher; Larry Felt, a dental technician; and Marilyn Karras of the Lakeside Review, who gave descriptions of what they do at work. The children also visited a Kaysville restaurant and learned how their orders are filled by the waitresses and cooks. The children then drew pictures and wrote stories about what they had seen. f. STEPHEN THORPE Clearfield High Special Awards Given Students CLEARFIELD Scholarships and awards for achievement were presented during the Clearfield ;High School Awards Banquet last week. Various categories of awards were presented, including departmental awards, scholarship awards by colleges and universities, and special awards by organizations and businesses. Miss Davies has lettered in volleyball, gymnastics and track. She has served as cheerleader and second runner-u- p to Miss Clearfield. She is an ihonor student and recipient of two scholarships. OpensMSnWrttaked 12th in his class scholastically, was captain of the football team and named to the allregion team in baseball. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of watches to six outstanding graduating seniors by three local businesses. Special scholarship awards went to Colleen Mewing, Elks Lodge Award, $700; Michael Hawrelok and Brenda Wilson, Fuller Foundation Awards, $500; Terry Capener, $500, and Lizabeth McComb, $200, Hill Administration Club; Colleen Mewing, Jostens Foundation, $500; Anne Rowley, $1000, Utah Jazz; Thomas Tisler, U.S. Air Force ROTC, and Von Gardiner and Floyd Gordon, U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The State Savings and Loan Outstanding Student Achievement Awards went to Anne Rowley and The R.C. Willey Outstanding Stephen Thorpe. Athlete Awards were presented to Donna Wood and Awards were presented Fred Cook. Scholar-Athlet- e to Lumber Hansen Joyce Davies and Shane by Openshaw. of the school.
