LAYTON 5 mM , Williams owns the store, whtch is the oldest locally-owne- d store in the mall. BLAINE WILLIAMS welcomes customers to the Squire in the Layton Hills Mall. Squire Moved to Layion Mall From Downtown By LYNDIA GRAHAM Review Correspondent LAYTON Probably the oldest locally owned shop in the Layton Hills Mall is The Squire, a mens clothing and shoe store. It is owned and operated by Blaine Williams and has been in business in the Layton area for 17 years. It is managed by Dean Williams, a brother of the owner. Both men live in Layton. As a downtown shop in Layton before the mall was built, The Squire enjoyed much success and it is one of the largest volume stores in the mall based on square footage. Blaine Williams said that he feels that one of the biggest reasons for their success is that we are always in the store and personally serving the customers. Williams has been in retail businesses since he was in high school when he worked part time in a department store. After his service in the U.S. Navy he went back into retail work and stayed with it. He was a department head, assistant manager, and manager of a national chain department store and then decided he wanted to have his own business. He said he made a careful study of where to put his store and decided that Layton had the greatest potential for growth and development. He said he still feels that way about Layton. He first located The Squire in the Fort Lane Shopping Center before his move to the mall. He also has a store in Kaysville. He and his wife and six children have lived in Layton for the past several years. Two of his children are still living at home. He said that all of his children have helped in the store over the years and at this time his son Bruce Williams is the manager of the Kaysville store.
