This close relationship has worked well for the braves throughout the season. To mix up the standard Smith-Egge- tt rushing display, Bountiful would surprise the Highland Secondary with passes from quarterback Phillip Sclmutz. Sclmutz was given plenty of time by the offensive line ' to pick and choose his receiver. Time was something Highland quarterback Jim Cowley rarely saw. The Royals put two touchdowns on the board in the first quarter, and showed signs of blowing the Warriors out early, but then Weber got tough and stopped the Royals for the rest of the half. Ironically, Jeff Childs is a player, claimed by Roy. He played five, years of W.F.F.L. football in Roy, and was always star of the team, under Coach Pete Goff and others. Childs lives west of Ogden, near the Weber-Ro- y High School border, and many of those rural kids come to Roy for little league sports. Coach Ernie Jacklin was not satisfied with his teams ance Friday. We played poorly from the second quarter on, admitted the coach. We got a little conservative, said Braves Coach Waite. We probably should have tried to pass but we didnt want to make a mistake and give the ball to Highland. Coach Waite may play conservative but you cant blame him if it works. It looked like it might be an easy win for the Darts when they rolled up the field against East on their first possession. Quarterback Ben Home finally got over the goal line from the four yard line on a keeper with 9:06 left in the first quarter. But easy it wasnt and bruised up the Darts were after they beat the East High Leopards They (East) really came to said 21-1- 2. Dart Sawley after the play, game. Were lucky to leave here alive. He said the Leopards bigger players really hit hard. We should have brought the paramedics with us today, they hit us so hard. Sawley said his team isnt quite as big, but was able to Hold them back on defense and make them work for it. Sawley claims they allowed the Leopards only one easy score in the game. The Darts rolled up 294 yards total offense. Spencer DeGraw led the way with 149 yards rushing. Troy Meacham added 50 yards. East was able to gain only 178 total yards. The Darts also led on first downs with 14 to the Leopards six. After Davis quick start, the Leopards marched right back with Mark Unebaugh taking the kickoff all the way back for a TD. Ed Callister scored on a two yard run. But the kick was blocked and East had to settle for a 6 tie. DeGraw then went to work, adtouchdown. He folding a lowed with a two point conversion, again carrying the ball into the end 6-- 42-ya- rd zone. In the second half East showed off some of its passing wizardry with Mike Adams catching a 47-ya- rd touchdown pass from quarterback Mark Hardy. East then tried a conversion but to no avail. The score stayed in Davis favor, Then it. was paramedics time. Both DeGraw and Horae were escorted off the field with injuries. DeGraw was soon back but Horae . sat out the rest of the game. I didnt feel it wise to send him back out, Sawley said of his starting quarterback who was suffering from strong stomach pains. We felt like we could hold on. And hold on they did as the second half ended in a defensive battle. Davis junior quarterback Rick Secrist stepped in and helped engineer the Darts final scoring drive by taking the ball in from three yards out. Today the Darts face undefeated Bonneville which, according to - Sawley, is a bigger, better team. The small but scrappy Davis Darts may need the paramedics again. We know theyre a good defensive team, Sawley said. But their offense may also give the Darts some problems.
