Placing were- Humorous Interpretation (HI)- - Stuart Lake, second place; Jana Jetfs, fourth. Pantomime- - Matt Thorpe, first Scenes- - Jaley Hinkins and Shawn Judd, fourth. Those who qualified for state are Dramatic at area Sterling Scholar By By Applications for next years Sterling and Scholars w ill be available in Mr. Peacock would like to encourage students to apply. Next years competition will be held at Carbon High School. mid-Apn- l, Champions I Ten win & place Emery High School recently took 1 1 seniors to Monument Valley High School to compete in the annual Sterling Scholar competition. On Monday, March 27, Emery came home with 10 full tuition scholarships, amounting to about $20,000 in awards. Five from Emery were winners In addiand five were named runners-up- . tion to the scholarship awards. Sterling Scholars received $300 while the runners-u- p received $100. Those w inning were: Derek Judi, Science; Dane Johansen, Social Science; Natalie Johnson, Business and Marketing; Nic Behumn, Foreign Language; and Michele McNeel, Mathematics. Runners-u- p were: Berni Jo Davis, Speech and Drama; Brady Worwood, Language Arts; Matt Thorpe, General; Janell Seely, Family, Health and Consumer Sciences; and Julie Christiansen, Technology. Also competing was Robert Mills in music. Neal Peacock, Sterling Scholar advisor at Emery High, said of Emerys success, As far as I know, this is the best that Emery High has ever done." He credits the success to the students, and the new Sterling Scholar preparation program. The students attend an earlybird class two days a week during the school year. Mr. Peacock said that the program helped the students prepare more. Derek Judi said that he believes it helped him a lot to know what to expect and to be better prepared. Natalie Blackwell also helped the students a lot with preparation for their interviews, and Judi said that she helped him a lot, and he credits his winning partly to her and to Mr. Peacock. Mr, Peacock hopes to continue the program next year, but he said, With a new principal coming in, I dont know. If the program continues, he s: id he would like to start working on interviews earlier in the school year. & Berni Jo Davis 20. The junior class selected the following for the prom royalty: Top, David MacDonald, king, and Mandy Johnson, Hudson and queen. Tiffany Ann Truman has been chosen as the March Student of the Month for Emery High School. She was born Aug. 24, 1982, to Risk Truman and Lori Ann Anderson. She is the oldest of five children and lives in Hunting-ton- . Tiffany is involved in many activities Outside of school she enjoys going to Young Womens activities, and she attends Huntington Youth City Council. At school. Tiffany says that she is active in the French Club and the Freedom Club. She really enjoys photography and has taken both beginning and advanced photography. My favorite classes are aP English and photography." she said, and she also takes AP biology. This senior is a regular mem Tiffany likes to play volleyball arid other sports at home. She also likes high school because she likes meeting all of the people and making so many friends. She also likes fixrtball games and attending the dances after home games. Although she hasnt quite decided which college she w u!d like to attend, she know s she's going to college somewhere, but the decision on which one will be a spur of the moment" thing. Her plans on what to study in college include elementary education and cosmetology. Rebecka Kirkham was named the best character actor for her performance in the play The stjte drama meet will be held at Snow Canyon High Schxl in St George on April 14 and 15. Kris is a friendly, easygoing, and cool person. He likes to ride his bike, play on his play station, skateboard, and go places. His favorite class is PE because it is a lot of fun to play sports. He would like to go and visit Hawaii and Norway. She likes to ride her bike and hang out with her friends. Someday she would like to live in her own house. She would also like to get a good job.
