I have always wondered ulxmt this. When they finish, the new' roadarea looks so nice w ilh the new first class frorvs. Then there art' other areas where they do not mlo the fences and some of these roads (list'd quite frequently by eople) look pretty junky with old fences, wet'ds, etc. Rex Funk of the County Road Department ex- sate Childrens Justice IFir opens ftllue Mdlireiro if Openingon Sept. 12. The C.IC in Castle Dale is the thirteenth CJC to open within the state. There are CJCs in Cache, Davis, Weber, Salt Lake, Washington, Tooele, Utah, Duchesne, Uintah, Grand, and Carbon Counties. The C.IC in Emery County is the product of a collaboration between the public and private sector realizing the need for a better way to help kids who have been abused. Emery County has some of the highest rates, per capita, of reported child abuse in the state. In the past when there was a report to DCFS or law enforcement about a suspected case of child abuse, the child was interviewed by several people at different times and in different lroations. The child may first talk to the school principal, then go down to the DCF'S office and then over to the sheriffs office to tell their story Now the child and family come to the CJC and the people come to the child. Each interview is audio and vidro taped to allow the childs story to bo reviewed by the county attorney This practice also protrots the sures, and depleting coal senes 5 CLUB eovNt. The community has been enthusiastically involved with getting the Emery County CJC decorated and furnished. The attorney generals office provides the funding for salaries, supplies and utility costs. The rest of the costs, including rent, teddy bears for the children, and other unexpected expenses, need to be raised within the community The Emery County CJC has a Friends Board who will over see g activities. the have only three members They at this time and need others to become involved. This will only involve an hour or two of your time per month. If you are interested, please contact I Jtnce Wright at (435) do this. Just because a child has an interview at the CJC does not mean there has been abuse. There are times children are interviewed and the result of the interview finds that nothing happened to the child. However, when it is discovered that abuse has occurred, the CJC process allows the child to tell their story in a neutral, safe environment. It is then that the healingcan begin. Cases are staffed by a team of professionals to keep the families from fallingthrough the cracks once the interview is over.
