We were surprised when we saw the number of registered voters had increased." commented Blackwell Grand County reported the number of registered voters on the Grand County side of Green River as 66 before the election, and as 81 after the election. Grand County reported the list of the number of registered voters came from the State. A Green River City employee said, We have a copy of the list of registered voters and it contains people who no longer live here, and havent lived here for a longtime. Green River City Mayor, Glen Dale Johnson spent some time going over the list of voters, and found that was the case with approximately 20 of the names on the list. Blackwell said, The court hearing previously scheduled for Nov. 22nd to address the economic analysis has been cancelled. By Nov. 27th, the State Canvassing Board will have the official results of the election and it will be determined if the annexation passed or not. Grand County has ten days to certify their numbers. The statute reads that the voter needs to be living in the area to be considered a registered voter. If either County protests the election results, the protest must be filed by Dec. On election day the vote from the Grand County side of Green River stood at 31 for and 16 against. When absentee ballots were counted four were in favor of annexation, one opposed and one was disqualified. Cities eye cell telephone tax Emery County cities are currently considering an ordinance which would impose a tax on mobile telephones. Called the Model Mobile Telephone Tax Ordinance, it is the product of the Utah League of Cities and Tbwns and, according to the leagues web site, is the product of a cooperative effort with representatives of the telecommunications industry. J The model ordinance would impose a $ 1 a month charge per cell phone account on the cell phone providers, who would then have the option of passing the tax on to its customers. The decision to impose the tax is up to each individual municipality. Currently, Fcrron and Orangeville are looking at Imposing the tax on mobile telephone providers. Cancer support group meets for planning The Women's Cancer Support Group met Nov. 15 to finalize their plans in donating a Thanksgiving dinner to help a family in the community have a happy holiday. For the winter months, the Cancer Support Group will meet the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Emery Medical Center.
