Show m msk 8A Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday May 8, 2001 Schools Emery students take part in state technology competition Under the direction of Advisor Jim Keele, Emery High TSA did well at the state competition held 1 March at Brigham Young There were 400 students University w ho registered for the conference. Tw enty-si- x high school and twenty junior highmiddle school contests were conducted. Several Emery High students placed in the following events: Computer Construction 3rd Barney and Shane Brett Construction Systems h 3rd Barney and Extemporaneous Presentation 2nd Pabst Prepared Presentation place-Jerimia- Mission Impossible ta place-Tris- 10-1- place-Jerimi- ah 1st place-Donnal- Day ee Structural Engineering 1st place-Trist- a Pabst and Calloway Guyman Technology Bowl 2nd place-Tris- Lana Koffords third grade class from Huntington Elementary recently presented the program, Mis- sity to compete in the state math contest. Students were given a three-homath test designed to identify the top math students in the state. All of the students participating from San Rafael did very well, scoring above the average level. Morgan Hardy did exceptionally well by placing 22nd out of 416 seventh graders. Jake Jones also did an outstanding job, and placed in the 42nd slot out of the 416 seventh graders. All of San Rafaels students did very well by scoring above the state average on a test that is extremely ur sion Impossible for students and parents. The students sang and danced as the piglets went in search of granny pigs house. Songs included Red Riding Hood, Puff, The Magic Dragon, and Three Blind Mice. All of the students danced to White Sportscoat. The cast included Piglet 1, Jake Clement, Piglet 2 Little TSA Advisors, Lavon and Marianne Pabst, Nathan ta Cheshire, Jeanette Campbell Silver and Bronze Achievement Day. Those students that placed first have the opportunity to attend the National TSA competition held at Richmond, Va. I Parents need to encourage their children to work hard in math to be ' prepared for these kinds of competitions and to do well on the SAT and ACT tests, which are used to determine eligibility for scholarships. Exemplary performance on math measures is very important for stu- dents who plan to seek employment and professions in technical fields.
