Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday October 9, 2001 7A Emery County PORT Offensive woes contiii undue for Emery Spartiarcs By RYAN PEACOCK Sports Reporter The offensive woes for the Emery High football team continued Friday when the Spartans lost their third straight gkme 31-- at Lehi. ' Emery is in the midst of a very tciugh stretch of games. Three of their last four games are against ranked teams and the other game was duringthe short 0 UEAweek. ' Emery now faces d North Sanpete next week. top-ranke- The game against Lehi seemed to be over just five minutes into the game. The Pioneers scored two quick touchdowns and put Emery into a 14--0 hole. Tjie Spartan defense didnt seem aj)le to stop Lehis passing, ut Emerys defense picked up their intensity They held Lehi to 14 plays, 27 yards, three punts, and an interception in their next four series. Emerys offense picked up, too, after a roughing-the-kickpenalty gave the Spartans new life. They put together a er drive with fullback Jason Parrish carrying the load, but werent able to score. Emerys Seth Powell inter- cepted a Lehi pass and returned it to Lehis 28. After a penalty, Powell caught a pass and went 33 yards for the score. Unfortunately for Emery, a penalty was called on the play and the touchdown was called back. Emeiy got as far as Lehis 23, but didnt get any closer the rest of the game. Lehi scored once more in the half, putting together an 68 yard drive that ended with a touchdown with just 45 seconds left in the half to put the score to 21-- 0. Things got worse for the Spartans in the second half. Penalties plagued Emery all night, forcing them to punt from their own six yard line, and putting them in a hole almost every se- ries. Lehi scored a touchdown on a pass and their kicker field goal to kicked a give Lehi 31 points. The Spartans fought the whole game, relying mostly on the running of Parrish and the arm of quarterback Kent Stilson. The former had 22 yards in one series while the latter spread passes around to four different receivers: Brandon Hansen, Powell, Jeff Fielder, and 29-yar- d 39-ya- rd Matt Cornett. But Emeiy was never able to cross the goal line (at least, not without the play being called back). The offense suffered the same fate in their previous two games against Delta and at Uintah, scoring just one touchdown in each game. It doesnt get any easier for Emery. The Spartans face North Sanpete Thursday, Oct. 18 at Spartan Field. The Hawks beat Delta Friday and are ranked number one in.the state. It will be Emeiy8 last home game and last game of the regular season. Regardless of what happens against North Sanpete, as long as Carbon doesnt beat Lehi or Delta in the next two weeks, Emery will make the playoffs by virtue of their 6 win over the 28-2- Dinos. Thats the good news. The bad news is that the Spar- tans will have to play the first- place team from another region on the road. Remember, the Spartans have a bye this week and then play Oct. 18 at Emery High, Support the Spartans in their last home game. 911 E. 100 No., Price 637-449- 3 8:30 am 6:00 pm, Sat 8:30 am Mon-F- ri 1 :30 pm We Repair ABS BRAKES PERFORMANCE - 4 EXHAUST SPECIALIST u FISHING REPORT i Fishing for trout continues to region-wid- e as cooler fall temperatures stimulate feeding and bring fish closer to improve shore.
