Show 2B Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday March 19, 2002 Emery students compete in Utah History Fair Finery High School students recently competed in the Utah History Fuir. After a high school competition, tiiesc students went to CKU on March 1 to compete in the Southeast Region History I kir. The first and second places each category will compete at the State History Fair in in Provo on April 19. Kody Powell received third place for his documentary on Nuelear Weapons. Andrea Cox and Ashlee Allred won first place honors for their group exhibit on the Slack Plague. Chud Binghams documentary about the internet won second place. Tisha Nielsons historical paper Black Market Emery High speech and debate students. Emery takes 1 st in region speech Adop- tions was second place in that category. Allison Wells exhibit on Women and Sports won first place in the individual exhibit category. Jason Algers paper about the History of Coif won third place. Kurt Adison received first plaee for his documentary, The Forgotten Heroes," about the Navajo Code Talkers. Mikail Bennett place first in the historical paper category with her paper about the By ANDREA COX Feb. 26 was Emery Highs Cap and Banner battles of Trenton and Princeton Emery High first and second place winners History Fair on April 19. during the Revolutionary War. Each of these students pre sented projects which received in the history fair excellent or superior ratings will compete in the State from the judges. Huntington Stake prepares for roadshows The Huntington Stake Roadshows will be performed on March 20, at 7 p m. at the new Huntington Stake House on Main Street. Six of the LI)S Wards will be participating in this event and will be following the theme of President Hinkleys famous talk on the Six Bs. Everyone is welcome. A roadshow has been defined as a miniature musical comedy - about 15 minutes in length -havingall the elements of entertaining and professional theater. The central idea is expressed through music, dance, and speech. The action is fast moving; the costumes, scenery, and year in speech and debate. They placed first at the Region Tournament. This years EHS Speech and Debate Team has done well at all the tournaments they have A roadshow should, if possible, include a large cast. Here, Bethany Peacock took second in Impromptu, Brandt Peacock took second in Student Congress, along with Erik Pyper who took third place in SPAR. Keisee Anderson took third in Dramatic Interpretation and second in Humorous Interpretation, along with finalist Michelle Johansen in Humorous e Interpretation. Kaylee was a finalist in Dramatic Edge-hous- Interpretation. After claiming their places at Pineview, the debate team moved on to the Richfield High School competition, where Bethany Peacock took third in Foreign Extemp. In Impromptu, Andrea Cox took third, Keisee Anderson, fourth, and Michelle Johansen, fifth. Abe Bawden placed fourth in Student congress along with Erik Pyper who placed third in Student Congress and received the award for Best Chair. perming . Herg, Emery High was not expected take any place higher than 3rd overall because they lacked PolicyTeam Debate which allows teams such as Richfield Lehi, Carbon, and Delta to havj a great advantage and increase their points immensely. Ho ever, through strength in indS vidual events, sacrifice, aqa perserverance, EHS took first place at Region. R. J. Leamaster took fifth, Erjfc Pyper took sixth, and Audrey Cox placed fourth in the Lincoln Douglas Debate. In Student ond. In National Extemp, TyreB; Jewkes took a third, and Mari Olsen placed fourth. Bethany Peacock took first place in Foreign Extemp, with Trevor Blackwell taking a second. Michelle Johansen took first place in Oratory with Shqq. Doojey. taking third, aq Kortney Anderson taking fourth. The total score earned for Emery High overall was aft amazing 78 points! This is the first time the EHS Speech and Debate Team has taken Region since becoming a 3A school. The team is looking forward to the State Speech and Debate Tournament being held in St. -- 'i TTErer Pirates defeated the By JEROME BURNS Duchesh'e-Eagles- The Green River Pirates Boys Basketball team went into state competition last weekend with hopes of regaining the glory of years past. Unfortunately, the Pirates progress was hindered by the skilled Layton Christian team, who beet the Pirates the first day. This loss put the young team completely out of contention for the championship of which they so determinedly sought after. However, this first-da- y loss would be the only loss that the Pirates would have to suffer throughout the duration of the tournament.
